New Music to Face Your Fears Into The Woods From SERA

New Music to Face Your Fears Into The Woods From SERA

Folk Music Indie Artist

‘Into the Woods’  is the follow-up to SERA’s acclaimed ‘Rabbit Hole’ single which was released in June to acclaimed reviews, and extensive radio support. ‘Into The Woods’ is a continuation on the theme of twisted fairytales.

Into the Woods’ is a response to the reoccurring plot-line in stories and films, where women are often chased into the woods by bad men, pursued by monsters or face great peril amongst the trees. Into the Woods instead becomes a place to grow, gain strength and face your fears.

SERA doesn’t mess around when it’s time to begin telling the story with the strumming of guitar and vocals jumping straight in with the simplicity of her vocals allowing the lyric and the story taking position into the spotlight. As soon as the chorus hits, SERA  takes you on a rhythmical journey all of her own ‘Into the Woods’.

SERA’s new songs will continue to follow in this theme of the mythic-surreal rooted in very real experiences. The track is taken from SERA’s collection of songs for 2019 and from her new collaboration with producer Andi Bonsai.

SERA hails from Caernarfon in North Wales and is a busy bilingual (Welsh and English) performer and songwriter, part of the CEG Records family. Earlier this year SERA was selected as a part of BBC Horizons programme, in which the BBC back a dozen of the freshest acts in Wales and provide them with festival showcases and industry opportunites.

Australian Rock Band

Australian rockers King Coyote have today announced their killer new single Coca Cola, an energetic romp inspired by chasing true love. Coca Cola is the first taste of the upcoming King Coyote EP Wild, an absolute masterclass in rock n roll, set for release on November 1.  King Coyote will be heading out on tour throughout October and November, kicking off in Burleigh at Moe’s Desert Clubhouse on Friday October 4, then heading through Kingscliff to support Grinspoon, home to Port Macquarie for a series of shows, wrapping with a summer show on December 28 at Tacking Point Tavern (Port Macquarie) supporting Thirsty Merc.

Coca Cola is for fans of true, classic rock n roll; the kind of song that makes you want to slam your empty glass on the bar and head straight to the dancefloor.  Evocative of rock auteurs Queens of the Stone AgeThem Crooked Vultures and JetCoca Cola is overflowing with heady guitar riffs and hooky vocals.  Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, lead vocalist Sunny Rowlands enthuses,

“This song is a bit of old time rock n roll, a throwback with our twist.  Coca Cola was inspired by true love, about seeing the red flags and acting on it, before you lose too much time… or whatever the listener thinks it’s about really.  We like both!”

Wild is a diverse collection of rock music by a group of seasoned musicians who know exactly who they are and what King Coyote represents.  From the exhilarating opener Running Wild, to the affecting, emotive closer Diamonds, the EP is true to its namesake in every sense of the word – this music is undeniably Wild Produced by Michael Lynch (Jimmy Barnes, Midnight Oil, John Butler Trio), Wild meets the thematic golden trio – sex, drugs and rock n roll – head on, as Sunny says,

We’ve taken a bit of time with this EP, enjoying the road, the band bonding, the late nights, the long nights and all the in-between, helping us get the songs to the point that represents us truthfully as a band.  It’s taken a couple of years, but it was worth the wait for us – it shows how far we’ve come and how far we can go.”

Shelly Segal Hit’s all The Right Notes with New Single ‘NO’

Shelly Segal Hit’s all The Right Notes with New Single ‘NO’

Australian Singer Indie Artist

LA-based songwriter Shelley Segal has her released latest single No, a modern, bold and assertive track that describes the difficulty many women face when turning down sexual advances.

Shelley has also announced her masterful new EP Holy, a masterclass in intimate lyricism and exciting, innovative Americana, set for release on November 1.

The Australian musician has been living and working in Los Angeles for three years, writing and recording Holy in the US while touring and collaborating on a host of noteworthy artistic projects.

No has a sentiment that will ring true for many women who have found themselves in a situation where it was almost impossible to say the word.  Driving guitars and textured percussion propel the track forward with serious attitude, while Shelley’s honeyed vocals carve a stunning melody on top.

Speaking on the inspiration behind this important track, Shelley explains,

No is a song about consent and the subtleties surrounding it.  It describes three different scenarios in which the protagonist finds it difficult to say no to sexual advances.  I wrote the song because even though it’s 2019 and so many women feel comfortable asserting themselves and speaking up for themselves, and even though there has been so much public discourse and progress on these issues, there are still scenarios where it feels hard to say ‘no’.  You can find yourself in a situation that you don’t want to be in and yet be unable to express that.  It’s not always easy in the moment to process the potential consequences that may come from your reaction.  Like the examples in the song for instance, in a work environment, in the street with a stranger.  Saying ‘no’ can create adverse outcomes like risking your job, or your safety.  This discussion around consent is not as straightforward as maybe we would like it to be and I wanted to reflect on those nuances.”

No is the first taste of Shelley Segal’s glorious new EP Holy.  This is an artist who has truly found her feet; Holy Man shines with energetic roots, rock riffs, skilled arrangement and Shelley’s undeniable lyrics and beautiful vocal performance.  San Antonio tugs at the heartstrings, a simple acoustic track with a deeply affecting message, while Holy is steeped in attitude and power, as Shelley sings, “I believe my body is beautiful, and it belongs to me.”

The EP was recorded in Brooklyn at Atomic Sound Studios with Dakota Bowman and Merle Chornuk (Tandy, Ryan Adams), it was produced and co-written (3 songs) with New York producer, guitarist and film composer Askold Buk and was mastered by Ted Jensen (Norah Jones, Dave Matthews).  Speaking on the making of the release, Shelley enthuses,

“I’ve been working on the songs for this record for over the last three years – since 2016, the year I moved to the US.  I’ve called the ep ‘HOLY‘  which felt like a really powerful statement.  In the Jewish tradition I grew up in, what was holy was dictated to me.  Which words, items and actions and even which people were holy was dictated to me.  To elevate my life, my songs, my experiences and my voice (which was not allowed to be heard unaccompanied in my synagogue), to call them holy is incredibly empowering.  It’s a challenge to those who want to use concepts of holiness and the sacred to create hierarchies, often placing themselves at the top.  I hope it will inspire people to decide for themselves what is holy and sacred to them.”

Shelley has been living and working in the US since 2016, and in between touring the country and writing music for her own project, Shelley has done everything from writing for musicals, for Estonian pop star ELYSA, and Dutch artist Glennis Grace, among others.  She has also worked tirelessly for charity group One Law For All, writing two songs for the organisation and reciving the CEMB Award (Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain) for her contributions.  Always busy with multiple thought-provoking projects on the go at once, Shelley is currently working on the music for a documentary (entitled Transmission Love) about a young transgender girl growing up in LA, as well as a conservation-themed EP with a science educator and biologist about the Puget Sound Watershed in Washington State.

Inner 29 Bring Pop-Punk/Emo To the Scene with New Music

Inner 29 Bring Pop-Punk/Emo To the Scene with New Music

Pop-Punk Emo BandBrand new EP from Brazilian based pop-punk/emo band –  INNER 29  . Full of catchy choruses and punchy guitar and piano driven pop-punk music. Fans of Something Corporate, Blink-182, Motion City Soundtrack, Relient K, Homegrown, Jimmy Eat World, Armor For Sleep, and Brandtson will find something to instantly enjoy about this new band.

About INNER 29:

A Brazilian three-piece band that is ready to show the world they mean business, INNER 29 is a living example that the youthful feel of Pop-Punk is something anyone anywhere can enjoy.

It all started out as a project by Mateus Freitas (Vocals, Guitar, Piano), who produced and recorded some demos in his bedroom in early 2018. He sent the songs to his closest friends, and based on their feedback, decided to record an EP on a professional studio, under the name Inner 29. He then invited two friends to join the group, Anderson Leonardo (Bass, BV) and Alexandre Junior (Guitar, BV).

Inspired by bands like Relient K, Mae, and Jimmy Eat World, and set out to make memorable music, they tracked their debut EP. “As far as sound and production, Inner 29 is quite impressive; in fact, the whole EP sounds like it was touched on by the finest producers available”, wrote Jesus Freak Hideout music reviewer Scott Fryberger on the record. Warm-heartedly received by their town’s scene, the debut also caught the attention of US-based record label Indie Vision Music.

Though distributed independently at first, the EP “Now and Again, Here” will be rereleased through IVM, remixed, with new artwork, mastering by Troy Glessner (New Found Glory, Neck Deep, Emery), and with two new songs.
Bringing a refreshing take on Pop-Punk/Emo to the scene, with sound and aesthetic reminiscent of the 2000’s and thoughtful lyrics, Inner 29 is a band to keep an eye on. The story is just beginning!

Kill Chicago Releases New Music from ForthComing album

Kill Chicago Releases New Music from ForthComing Album12

Indie Rock Band

Kill Chicago have a careful knack for weaving heartfelt messages through boisterous rock’n’roll. Natural storytellers with a political core, this New Brunswick-based quartet has made a name for itself through electrifying live shows and an honesty that reflects their blue collar history. Their new album, The Fix (releases November 8th, 2019) amplifies their dissent with relatable working class anthems, breaking the fever dream of societal expectations.

Digging deeper into their storytelling roots, The Fix sees Kill Chicago take aim at contemporary issues – education, economy and the politicization of the modern era – while relating the personal subject of mental shifts that accompany parenthood. Lead songwriter Greg Webber notes “Having my daughter has made me think about the concept of self-improvement. It seems like we’re always trying to fix some part of ourselves, but when we were kids our concerns were less internal. Why do we see ourselves as broken?”. The Fix challenges these concepts head-on, with a full arsenal of guest performers & expanded sonic territory that make it their strongest, most cohesive album yet.

The release of The Fix follows some much deserved accolades, with their previous album, The Grey, being awarded Music NB’s Album of The Year (2016), and performing on the ECMA’s Rising Star stage (2018) as well as a slew of regional festival slots.

Kill Chicago are nothing if not dedicated members of their local community. When not performing, Greg Webber (guitar/vox) teaches music at Fredericton High, developing the next generation of artists; Drummer Zach Atkinson is owner and promoter at the legendary venue The Capital, and both Matt Bowie (bass) and Dillon Anthony (guitar/keyboards) are seasoned veterans of the east coast music scene. Together, they’re politically-charged and community-minded, thick-skinned but with a sentimental core.

Kill Chicago is a group that’s gained the grit of experience. They’ve been on both sides of the fence but know that grass is only greener when you put the time in to make it that way. Writing songs for the working class and building up the bereft. The Fix is meant to be one thing… good medicine for good people.

Kill Chicago has just released a single from their forthcoming album, ‘Moonlight’.

Moonlight is one of my oldest songs. It was written on a stoop in Vancouver on the classical guitar I was using to get my music degree with. The song was given new life when I asked the 88 member Concert Band I direct to sing the gang vocal. Our producer Brad Perry was listening to what we had laid down for the track and said “It sounds like you’re trying to be 100 people, but you’re only 3. So unless you have access to 100 different voices at once, we need to cut that part out.” I returned a few weeks later having recorded the High School students at the end of pour last rehearsal before Christmas break. Their energy gives me goosebumps every time.

New Single ‘Live and Love’ Inspired to Simply Learn to Be, from Borza

Indie Artist

Borza is British born Persian Québéquois, living & travelling between Canada & Europe trying to spread as much love as possible through his music; or at least as much as a human can do so for now.

His main interest & goal with music is to have listeners experience the natural synergie that music has with spirituality.
Borza believes that music can help to heal people in different ways.

His love for musical projects filled up many years, working with many artists that have a conscious message to send out into the world for encouragement and inspiration to others.

Borza has helped with his playing, writing, producing and engineering on recordings with new artists and impressive established artists such as such as the McGarrigle sisters, Emmylou Harris to Lauryn Hill.

However Borza felt that time had come; that moment he noticed his musical endeavours did not feel complete. Borza felt that he didn’t complete & put out his records as well amongst his fellow artist friends and partners.

Borza first release was an alternative/folk EP called “playing with time” in December 2016, and this year he is looking to finalize a full length album that will have the essences of alternative pop, folk & reggae.

The soon to be released album is being produced by his dear friend and producer Malcolm Burn who has produced music for the likes of Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, Emmylou Harris, and Daniel Lanois.

His 1st single “Be Amazing” from the upcoming record was released on April 26th 2019 and has been added to more than 325 playlists on Spotify to date.

Borza’s songs & music are about the enlightenments he has had that’s helped him with different situations in life, and he likes to share these moments with people, just like he does with his friends & family.

Borza‘s new single “Live and Love” is a folk-inspired alt-pop track about letting go and to simply be.

At the heart of every Anthony James song is a beat you can’t ignore, beckoning your hips to get up and dance. The Australian-born Londoner espouses irresistible rhythms to catchy, bittersweet hooks and driving guitar lines. The end result is pop music with a gritty edge… the perfect array of loveable melodies with a tinge of heightened emotion.

Perky Disco DAnce Pop New Music from Les Loups Gets You Hooked

Perky Disco Dance Pop New Music from Les Loups Gets You Hooked

Dance Band

Les Loups new music release will get you well and truely hooked and dancing. With finger snapping electro sounds that sits up close, you can’t help but feel that perhaps the cool melodic sounds and dry beats of the 80’s dance era are making a comeback. And that puts a big smile on my face!

There is a certain familiarity about the new song ‘Jadded’ that I like; or maybe it’s because the swooping electro keys and sound of space remind me of an all time favourite song of mine.

And the vocals of Brock are divine of course. Les Loups has just gained another fan.

More about Les Loups:

By exploring genres and shifting boundaries, Les Loups’ music is a melting pot of modern dance and electronic music as well as organic and raw elements from dusty disco to glowing pop.

Grewing up in the same neighbourhood in their hometown in Germany, Toni, Phil and Felix started out with producing sample-based and ‘straight-to-the-dancefloor’ house music back in 2010. They soon realised that Les Loups could evolve into something more ambitious and tread a new path.

Their popularity grew bigger as they released the summer hit ‘Colourblind’ in 2014, which introduced the amazing Cybil from London. It premiered on Majestic Casual and gained 5+ million overall streams. The follow-up single “Stay“ featured danish soul talent Marie Dahlstrøm. It was critically acclaimed and received the Scandinavian Soul Award for “Best Single 2015“. The release of their debut EP “Arcanum” in August 2016 marked another step stone for the group, as it further crystalized the “Les Loups“ signature sound.

Over the years, they established themselves as well-known DJs, by starting from being a small resident act in their hometown Hanover to performing in cities all over the World, including Paris, Milan, Barcelona, Montreal and many more. They shared the stage with legends like Mousse T., Busy P. or Cassius, but also contemporary greats like of FKJ, Roosevelt or Moon Boots.

In 2019 they’re about to release their first original track in three years. “Jaded” features LA- based singer Brock and is the precursor of more Les Loups music to come.

Patrice Peris New Single ‘Drowning’ Is Pop Music With Style

Patrice Peris New Single ‘Drowning’ Is Pop Music With Style

Indie ArtistPatrice Peris  is at it again with her latest single release “Drowning.”

I have to say, this is most likely the best I’ve heard Patrice sing with an expressive vocal creating an original and unique style and essence with ‘Drowning’.

‘Drowning’ is one of those songs that you still hear after you stop playing it, which is a good indicator of a well written catchy pop song.

The production entails a driving beat drum loop which moves the track along.

‘Downing’ is radiating off the heels of the success of her previous single, “The War,” which, between the acoustic and remixed version, accumulated a combined viewing total of over 100k. Peris’ newest Pop/Dance track plays again with a fun uptempo beat with more serious lyrical content.

When discussing the meaning behind the song and her choice to go the same route stylistically as “The War,” Peris, says,

“For me, I feel like the best way to express myself as an artist is through lyrical content. But in the same sense, a big part of me is not serious and sad all the time so to combine the elements of pop dance, up-tempo tracks with more emotional, thought-provoking lyrical content is kind of the best marriage of the two worlds. I don’t know anyone who has not been around someone who just kind of sucked the life out of them. Drowning came about from this idea. I use the metaphor of drowning because in these relationships it is almost like they drain you of your energy, leaving you lifeless.”

“Drowning” is now available on all music streaming platforms!

Baddest hip Hop Rapper FVN Releases New Music

Rapper

Female rapper FVN teams up with her favourite producer DJ John Vincent. Together they have created the City Girl/Saweetie-inspired banger ‘Baddest’.

FVN is also, as the first artist ever, featured on Fallulah’s first single from her new project, which will be released in the nearest feature.

FVN’s own release, ‘Baddest’, starts out with an intro in Danish, which deals with the criticism she has received in a short period of time. ‘Baddest’ is therefor a cocky and provocative clap back to; all the haters who continuously tells her to act and behave a certain way and to people who always ask her “do you write your own lyrics?” – as if a female rapper isn’t capable of writing her own punchlines?

The official music video for the track is produced by Dose Sampu and will be released short after the release of the single.

The video is a crazy mash up of flashy footage in where FVN proudly radiate a bad bitch attitude in the style of Missy Elliott and Lil Kim.

Indie Rock Band, ‘Assuming We Survive’ Will Survive New Single

Indie Rock Band

Southern California rockers Assuming We Survive have signed with InVogue Records. The band has just released a new single and video “Too Close” which is streaming everywhere here: https://orcd.co/tooclose.

This fall, fans can catch the band on tour with We Were Sharks (with support from Never Loved on select dates. See tour dates below.

Rock n’ roll subculture is uniquely exciting in terms of the level of crowd participation, interactivity, and accessibility present at most shows. From the early days of the Sex Pistols and the Ramones, clear through to the Descendents and NOFX, the most passionate of players work hard to destroy the perceived boundary between the audiences and the band. “Hey, we’re just fans, too. You could be us.”

Assuming We Survive takes this ethos and amplifies it times infinity, barreling headfirst into each and every aspect of their existence with collective energy and unbridled optimism. Singer Adrian Estrella, armed with unmistakable charisma and good-cheer, will take a literal surfboard into the crowd, riding the physical and metaphorical wave of enthusiasm and electricity present at every single AWS show.

The band’s frontman is united in his goodwill and welcoming vibe with his musical cohorts and fellow Inland Empire, California mainstays: guitarist Phil Adams, guitarist Johnny Silva, and drummer Kris Pasos. Assuming We Survive has generated steady steam and garnered accolades for nearly a decade. But in recent years, AWS has truly come into their own as their dedicated approach spreads their sound across the globe, amassing an army of smiling supporters eager to give the band their all.

It’s a wave of momentum and positivity that has catapulted Assuming We Survive into the Top 50 on the New Artist charts and more importantly into the hearts and minds of a burgeoning crew of like-minded supporters and believers, from the kids who share their love for the band on social media to the band’s contemporaries.

All Roads Lead to Home, the band’s debut full-length was a collection of inspiring jams running the gamut from pop-punk to Easycore, with aggressive energy befitting of the more extreme sides of the underground scene and soaring melodies with unapologetic hooks, catchier than most Top 40 rock radio.

Assuming We Survive songs are a collective testament to the band’s creative diversity, dense musical influences, and willingness to pour themselves into their music. Their songs are earnestly heartfelt. AWS is both motivated and motivating.

AWS has toured with such bands as Falling In Reverse, Attila and Atreyu to name a few, while making the rounds on festival lineups like SXSW, So What?! Music Fest, Vans Warped Tour, Self-Help Festival, and Monster’s Aftershock, where they’ve played alongside bands such as Avenged Sevenfold, Pierce The Veil, Sleeping With Sirens, Good Charlotte, and Real Friends. Assuming We Survive isn’t satisfied until every person in the house is energized, happy, and empowered.

With their last release, CHAPTERS, the band went into the studio with producer Tyler Smyth (Danger Kids, Bless the Fall, Falling In Reverse) with the mentality of making a record that would “break the mold” so to speak.

Now with their recent signing to InVogue Records, Assuming We Survive aims to continue to energize the whole world, one show at a time, channeling energy back and forth with every single fan.

Neo Classical Piano Composer Juan Sanchez Releases New Music

A SWEEPING, EMOTIONAL COMPOSITION DEDICATED TO HIS PIANO TEACHER

NeoClassical Album Cover Juan Sanchez

A sweeping, emotional composition, written in remembrance of Sanchez’s beloved piano teacher Enric Torra Pòrtulas.

Juan Sánchez is a composer with the talent and grace to evoke listener’s deepest emotions. He puts this gift to good use on  Very Young Old Man in which he pays tribute to the man who shaped his musicianship. Sánchez had attempted music school before, but found it to be stale and formulaic, so he left in search of a teacher who could be a true inspiration. Enric Torra Pòrtulas proved to be just that man.

Neo Classical Piano Composer Juan Sanchez Releases New Music

Under the tutelage of Pòrtulas, Sánchez received the musical education he so desperately needed. “I was so lucky to find him,” he explains. “I was 20 years old and he was 80 years old. I was amazed, as I’d never seen so much energy and enthusiasm in a person of his age. He loved teaching piano, anyone could see that immediately.”

During the five years they studied together, Sánchez learned the music of the great masters – Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, but the most important thing he took away from his lessons was his teacher’s undying love for music. Their lessons, scheduled to be sixty minutes long, would regularly go multiple hours, as they both were so absorbed by the music they were making together. During this time Sánchez truly discovered himself as a musician, finding his own individual voice as a composer.

Neo Classical Piano Composer Juan Sanchez Releases New Music

“Enric Torra was an elderly man with a young spirit. He was a ‘Very Young Old Man,’ Sánchez says, explaining the composition’s beautiful title. “This composition is dedicated to him. Enric Torra passed away on August 4th, 2003. He was 93 years old. I will never forget him.”

All That Matters Is That StoneWire Is Back With New Single

All That Matters Is That StoneWire Is Back With New Single

Rock Band

StoneWire – All That Matters   from the forthcoming new album “Life as We Know It” which will be released on November 1st.

StoneWire have crafted a sound that is both unique and yet reassuringly familiar. With influences spreading across many genres the blend of Rock, Blues, Country and Heavy Metal produce something that has been described as classic British Rock with a dirty Southern twist.

They switch seamlessly from riff-laden rock to melodic anthems, underpinning it all with dynamic rhythms and exceptional vocals. This versatility has led critics to compare StoneWire to contemporaries such as Black Stone Cherry, The Answer and more recently the Blues Pills.

Sky Hunter’s soaring rock vocals and gravely blues tones are integral to the StoneWire sound. This powerhouse of a front woman delivers an electrifying live performance and clearly shares a true connection with the audience.

But StoneWire are not all about the front (wo)man. The emphasis is firmly on the word band, setting them apart from other female fronted groups.

The bands core is centred on a mix of voice, music and an ever energetic, ever powerful, live performance. This is reflected in the loyalty of their growing fan base who are not mistaken when they say the band just have so much fun on stage.

A self-titled debut EP was released, and the band reached new heights in 2013 supporting Michael Schenker on the Swedish leg of his Temple of Rock / Lovedrive Reunion tour.

In December 2014 StoneWire released their eagerly awaited debut album ‘When The Crow Flies’ on 22:11 Records to great critical acclaim. The album was produced by drummer Rob Glasner and mixed by Voodoo Six’s bassist Tony Newton. Also on board for the production was The Almighty/ex-Alice Cooper guitarist Pete Friesen who provided additional guitar throughout.

Since then StoneWire have played shows at many prestigious venues across the UK and in Europe and saw them support Swiss Rockers Gotthard, guitar legend Bernie Marsden and just recently the Nashville country-fuzz sensation The Cadillac Three.

The band have played some great festivals over the years and were billed alongside Black Star Riders and King King to name but a few.

June 2018 saw them play a storming set at the O2 Arena in London for Stone Free Festival with headliners The Scorpions & YES and after a successful HRH debut at last years HRH BLUES, StoneWire returned to Sheffield to play the main stage at HRH CROWS

On the single, Sky says:

‘All That Matters’ continues on from where the first single ‘FTM’ ended. It’s a more self-reflecting yet positive piece where the focus lies with us the individual and that, although life might be a bit tough out there, we have a choice to break free from the negativity and connect with others to create a more positive situation. We wanted to create a video that was different and reflected on the various stages of the song. We think Hot Frog Animation delivered a stunning piece of art in its own right”.

Live dates:

26th October 2019 – Audio, Glasgow (special guest to The Swamp Born Assassins)
9th November 2019 – Hard Rock Hell XIII, Great Yarmouth
14th November 2019 – Hope & Anchor, Islington London (headline show)

Charles Cleyn Returns With New UpBeat Pop Single

Charles Cleyn Returns With New UpBeat Pop Single

Indie Pop SingerCanadian singer-songwriter Charles Cleyn returns with emotive new single called What Love Is’. Produced by Ainsley Adams (Adele, Jessie J, The Kooks) and co-written by Charlie Grant, Charles Cleyn blends acoustic guitars with electronic synths to create his unique, upbeat pop sound.

Having spent years working in a corporate job, Charles decided to follow his heart and jump into music full time. He moved to Berlin where he released his debut single ‘Decisions’ back in June 2018 and was awarded a Berlin Music Video Award. He spent the rest of 2018 in his Berlin living room, writing over 200 songs with different co-writers, honing his craft to find his new sound.

When asked about ‘What Love Is’, Charles stated: “I’m not always sure if I’m living the right life or following the right path. There are times it feels right but there are other times it doesn’t. I think this happens to a lot of people, so I was inspired to write What Love Is. It’s a song about that feeling of not knowing what direction you’re going in but if you have one person to lean and count on then everything will be okay.”

Mark Fox Unleashes Powerful New Jazz Album

Mark Fox Unleashes Powerful New Jazz Album

Jazz MusicianFrom the cosmos the Eulipion vibration sprung forth on the planet. Beings of light, love and creativity brought new sounds and healing to earth, “a duty-free gift for the traveler.” Over the eons, this unique frequency of being has been passed from generation to generation. Mark Fox is an avatar of this vibration and energy, a “Neulipion” brought into the music world by previous carriers of the light – Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Archie Shepp, Yusef Lateef, Jimmy Hopps, Pharoah Sanders and the like.

“Iridescent Sounds” (Humble Genius Records) is an expression and confirmation of this historic, yet eternally new sound and feeling, that brings an ancient future of love, light, joy, possibility and transformation to the world. At the helm of this cosmic vessel, alongside Mark Fox, is MaestroTodd Barkan, producer extraordinaire, NEA Jazz Master and one of the carriers of the Eulipion torch.

The group entered the studio time-machine back in April of 2018 to record Fox’s second album as a bandleader, following the global success of his first CD, Mark Fox – “Thee Octaves Above the Sun”, recipient of “Best of 2016” by allaboutjazz.com, and extensive international airplay and accolades. –AAJ Best Releases of 2016 – by James Nadal. “Iridescent Sounds” is a compelling journey into unforeheard realms and dimensions of beauty and grace.

Lead by saxophonist/composer Mark Fox, joined by masters Peter Stoltzman on piano, Felix Ayodele on guitar, Troy Robey on bass, Tom Tilton on drums, Daniel Moreno & Jimmy Hopps on percussion and special guest Hugh Ragin on trumpet this CD delivers transcendental music of the highest caliber.

Sawyers New Pop Single and Visuals Quirky Yet Poignant Message

Pop Duo

“There’s nothing better than a girl-power anthem accompanied by visuals of sparkles and flying tampons. Thanks to the dynamic pop-rock duo, Sawyer , we get all of that and more wrapped in one badass bow,”  Ladygunn‘s Paulette Ely wrote on Tuesday. “Sawyer’s single, ‘Emotional Girls,’ speaks to the unspoken societal fear that women have of being dismissed for seeming ‘crazy’ in relationships. The video is a stylistic slap-in-the-face to those who have incriminated the emotions of women, and the slumber party vibes portrayed are a sentiment to the importance of being vulnerable and honest with your best friends by your side… Emotional health must be emphasized across all identities, and Sawyer’s single/video is turning the steps toward progress into graceful, giant leaps.”

Filmed with a group of their real-life besties, the Nashville-based duo debuted their quirky-yet-poignant new visual yesterday as a call to arms for “emotional girls” everywhere.

“We wanted the music video to visually show that when someone uses the label ’emotional’ to dismiss another person’s experience, a gross distortion of reality occurs,” the band explains. “The verses portray reality and the choruses portray the situation as the boyfriend sees it. At the chorus, Kel’s bedroom turns into a pink, fluffy explosion. This room becomes the backdrop for a montage of eight girls acting out a characterized version of what “having emotions” looks like— throwing tampons in the air, pulling sprinkles out of a pink purse, or screaming into a telephone. By becoming what being ’emotional’ looks like to the boyfriend, the absurdity is revealed. At the end of the video, all of the girls have taken off their exaggerated makeup and clothes, and helped Kel take off hers. It’s a really empowering image of friendship.”

Composed of best friends Emma Harvey and Kel Taylor, Sawyer formed when the pair met while both attending Belmont University in 2015. Since then, the duo have racked up over 5 million streams on Spotify alone, earning the two an opening slot on Jon McLaughlin‘s 29-date Me and My Piano Tour this fall. Their self-described brand of “friend rock” aims to pair feel-good sounds with thought-provoking lyricism in an all-inclusive environment.

“We want this song to make people feel understood and to make other people understand,” they admit. “Anyone that has been dismissed or overlooked because they feel their emotions, we are here to say you are not crazy! And you deserve better from your friends or co-workers, or whoever it is in your story.”

Taste the Medicine Of Shoegaze Pioneers With New Cover Album

Indie Rock Band

After a hiatus of several years, Medicine release a new long-play today,  October 4. Entitled‘ Scarred for Life’ , this 11-track offering will be available on limited edition vinyl, as well as digitally, via NYC-based label  Drawing Room Records. The brainchild of guitarist Brad Laner, the LA-based collective was among pioneers of the shoegaze genre and today, is one of a small handful of core bands of this genre to reform and still exist today, along with peers Slowdive, Ride, Swervedriver and My Bloody Valentine.

‘Scarred For Life’ is a highly ambitious release – an album of all “killer no filler”, including tracks from Neil Young, Judee Sill, Miles Davis, The Monkees, and even Bob Welch. This album of all covers is well beyond simple reinterpretation. Laner and company give each track a Medicine-sized dosage of their ‘wall of sound’ to bless and heal.

Mastered by Adam Gonsalves, each LP is pressed on 180-gram vinyl. It comes with a full color gloss jacket and 22×22” foldout poster. This is an outstandingly eclectic selection of tracks where Laner and cohorts attempt to relive the glory (and none of the fiascos) of old school samplers, like K-Tel compilations. Back in the 70s and early 80s, these samplers provided an economic way to experience the wonders of AM/FM radio dials, being as varied as the Top 40 charts were in their heyday.

This new offering continues a great tradition of feedback-saturated noise-pop experiments dating back to 1991, when Brad Laner formed Medicine with drummer Jim Goodall, guitarist Jim Putnam, bassist Eddie Ruscha and singer Annette Zilinskas, who was eventually replaced by Beth Thompson. Medicine’s current line-up sees Laner, Goodall and Zilinskas reunited, along with guitarist Matt Devine, who played with Medicine on their last US tour in 1995 and also joined the band for their 2014 appearance at Austin Psych Fest.

“Come listen and hell even purchase this album of covers. Above all else, this album was really just some folk’s attempt to keep sane in the wake of a certain nameless fascist assuming power back in the dark days of 2016. Mind you, we love it, but the song choices have no cohesive theme and although it’s a bit noisy, we’re not trying to be all anything, or whatever,” says Brad Laner.

Medicine were signed to Creation Recordson the basis of the original demo, becoming the first American band to do so. In America, they signed to Rick Rubin’s American Recordings label in 1992. Although Pitchfork hailed Medicine as the closest thing to being an American answer to My Bloody Valentine, Medicine’s signature guitar tone managed to distinguish their own music from some of the more ambiguous endeavors of the shoegaze movement.

Medicine is perhaps best known for their cameo appearance in the 1994 film The Crow and subsequent inclusion of ‘Time Baby 3’ on its soundtrack, featuring guest vocals from Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser.

Medicine’s first album ‘Shot Forth Self Living’ was released in 1992, followed by ‘The Buried Life’the next year, gaining them mainstream attention. The band broke up soon after releasing their third album ‘Her Highness’in 1995. Medicine reformed briefly in 2003 as a duo with Laner and Shannon Lee (daughter of Bruce Lee), releasing the album ‘The Mechanical Forces of Love’.

It would be another decade until Laner would reunite with Thompson and Goodall and release a new studio album ‘To the Happy Few’ through Captured Tracks, followed by their sixth album ‘Home Everywhere’. In 2012, Captured Tracks reissued Medicine’s first two albums with bonus material and rarities. 2017 brought the release of ‘2.0 Extraneous’, a collection of B-sides and unreleased material from Medicine’s 2003 incarnation.

Over the years, Brad Laner has shown himself to be perhaps the most prolific artists on the underground scene, involving himself on various projects, including his experimental solo projectElectric Companyand the psychedelic supergroupLusk(with members ofToolandFailure), receiving a Grammy Award nomination for their sole album. He performed on more than 300 albums, contributing vocals and co-writing onM83‘s 2011 album‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’and playing drums for industrial rock outfit Savage Republic. Laner’s work has been sampled by artists such as Brian Eno and Caribou.

Annette Zilinskas is best known for the musically disparate bands she’s fronted. After co-writing the songs ‘Aruca’ and ‘Miss Drugstore’, she left Medicine as her music troupe The Ringling Sisters had signed with A&M Records. Zilinskas was the original bassist for TheBangles and vocalist with influential roots-punk outfit Blood on the Saddle, whose juiced-up anthems inspired the cowpunk genre, paving the way for the No Depression movement and the related alt-country/Americana revivals. She later led the dream-pop group Weatherbell and punky all-girl garage-rock trio 3 Hole Punch. At the end of 2016, Zilinskas reunited with The Bangles for live performances.

“This LP is like a homecoming for me and Brad playing together again,” says Zilinskas.

‘Scarred for Life’ has been released across online stores and streaming platforms such as Spotify. The vinyl itself will be available exclusively from Drawing Room Records’ Bandcamp site.

Songs are medicine for Aging Frontman’s Mental Health

Songs are medicine for Aging Frontman’s Mental Health

Indie Artist

Speaking about what inspired AGING FRONTMAN, his most accomplished and poignant solo release to date, Vinnie Caruana has this to share:

“This is as personal as I’ve ever been with the listener. The people who listen to my music know me. I’ve personally met most of them at shows and we have a relationship. This is just another layer. I’m still looking for answers. We all are. We have to keep finding the beauty in life, no matter how hard life can sometimes make it for us. I want to keep being the best version of myself until I die.”

This never-ending desire to find and hold on to beauty and peace of mind, despite the chaos and frequent ugliness of the world we all live in, is something that has always inspired Caruana to write and perform music, and to connect with his fans.   Due out today, October 4, on Know Hope Records in the US and Big Scary Monsters in Europe/UK, AGING FRONTMAN is without a doubt the finest distillation of that ethos, and of Caruana’s formidable talent as a singer/songwriter.  “I wanted it to be a bit dreamier without losing a firm connection to the bare bones and firm structures of the songs,” Caruana says. “This is certainly my finest achievement out of anything in my solo career, sonically. Brett Romnes and I got on the level and rode a really fun wave together in the studio.”

Romnes’ role went well beyond performing on the record as well.  “Along with playing the drums,” Caruana explains

“Brett also produced and mixed the record.  He’s a supremely talented producer and has always innately understood my vision.  We recorded at Barber Shop Studios in New Jersey, which is world-class facility with incredible vintage gear that we made full use of on this record.”

The result is half a dozen shimmering tracks that reveal an artist fully committed to pushing the boundaries of artistic expectations.  Renowned and long-beloved as a founding member of The Movielife and I Am The Avalanche, Caruana clearly isn’t afraid of surprising his fans with this latest solo release.  And, in choosing the title AGING FRONTMAN, Caruana also sought to provide his listeners with a wry and very down-to-earth window into his frame of mind.

“I turn 40 this year and sometimes I narrate my actions in my brain and make myself laugh: ‘Aging Frontman, rises from his slumber and ponders what to have for breakfast. Will he simply pour milk into a bowl of boxed cereal?  Or will he wash the dirty pan in the sink, apply heat, and crack an egg?   Only time will tell.’  The record can be a bit heavy, and I thought perhaps the artwork and title could provide some laughs and offer a nice juxtaposition between the cover and title, and the music and lyrics.”

But above all, Caruana confides;

“These songs are medicine for me in my quest to attain mental health.  I want my fans to know that I’m OK. I want them to know that I know that we are all in a battle and that we have no choice but to win.”

This sentiment is at the very root of AGING FRONTMAN: despite all the challenges and setbacks that life deals any of us, Caruana is committed to pushing himself creatively, to living fully and to forging ahead.  And with the songs he shares on his new record, he’s inviting all of us to walk alongside him on his journey, head held high, regardless of whatever life tries to throw his way.

Impressive Sleek Fusion of Folk/Pop New Music From Raynes

Impressive Sleek Fusion of Folk/Pop New Music From Raynes

Pop Folk Trio

Raynes is a transatlantic trio made up of two Americans and a Brit. Now based in Los Angeles, Mat Charley and Joe Berger, both born and raised in North Dakota, met UK native Mark Race through Instagram after an extensive search for the final piece of this project. The geographically unlikely three combine their unique and complementary strengths to form an artistically authentic band, integrating elements of modern pop with classically Americana instrumentation. Their ability to blend pianos and synths, pounding drums and sophisticated vocals, and string arrangements with acoustic guitars and mandolins results in an impactful, one-of-a-kind style.

Raynes’ highly anticipated debut single ‘Lemon Drop’ showcases their distinct amalgamation of influences. Produced by Mighty Mike (Lana Del Rey, The Neighbourhood, Dua Lipa) and mastered by Joe LaPorta (David Bowie, Vampire Weekend, Shawn Mendes), the track features catchy melodies, violin riffs, and stacked vocal harmonies. Raynes share:

“It’s been a fun challenge incorporating all of Mike’s pop expertise into our sound. We’ve had a blast figuring out how to make a violin sound like a synth and a snare sound like a hand clap, as well as blending it all together so it walks the line between folk and pop in the most appealing way.” ‘Lemon Drop’ describes chasing fame in Los Angeles and the tension between the sweet and the sour that comes with that. The trio confide, “It’s pretty fatalistic, but very tongue in cheek, as none of us are really planning on getting hooked on drugs or the adoration of fans or any of the other pitfalls that our parents and Hollywood itself warned us about.”

Sonically, the music is inspired by a myriad of different influences. Their sound has been compared to the arena-filling choruses of Coldplay, the Americana instrumentation of Mumford and Sons, and the harmonic complexity of the Beach Boys. Raynes call this inimitable fusion “expensive folk”––folk instrumentation which incorporates very obvious elements of pop production, ultimately creating a slicker and shinier sound than straight-down-the-middle folk. “Even with all of the more exotic or unusual components, it’s really just pop music at its core,” reveals the band.

There are recurring lyrical motifs running through the music of Raynes––heads and hearts, blood and bones, sugar and salt, sun and rain, and wine and water, among many others. There are also a number of musical ideas and elements that repeat in many of their songs, such as atmospheric synth tones, violin and mandolin counterpoints, and world-inspired percussion. But there’s not really one thematic throughline other than “the human condition” and all that comes with it––longing, confusion, cowardice and despair, but also joy, hope, growth, and of course love. Some songs are inspired by Bible stories, Greek myths, or historical events, and some are more personal, direct, and intimate.

With a catalog of songs, ready to unveil one by one, Raynes continues to grace audiences with their robust folky foot-stompers, introspective ballads, and pure pop sugar. ‘Lemon Drop’ is currently available worldwide.
