Feed Me The Future Of Electronic RnB From LIA

Electronic Pop Indie ArtistLIA’s sultry vocals carry stories nestled in poetic prose with cinematic electronic productions featuring elements of trip hop and futuristic RnB.

At the age of 16, LIA developed the base of her sound crafting acoustic-laid stories on her father’s old guitar in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. After moving to Montreal for school, LIA enveloped herself in the city’s electronic music scene and decided to dispel her academic background to develop production skills and refine her sound. Now LIA grows a universe through her words, voice, and compositions, drawing influence from artists such as Feist, Banks, Bon Iver and James Blake.

Over the summer and fall of 2017 LIA released four singles under Parisian label Nowadays Records. Her first single, an energy-infused, cinematic electronic gem titled Shiver, broke 1.4 million Youtube views in the first year. Two of LIA’s fifteen collaborations also quickly peaked within their first year of release: Distant by Clement Bazin struck 8 million Spotify streams along with I Promise by Fossa Beats and Thomas White at 5.6 million. In 2018, LIA was invited to perform in Montreal, New York City and Singapore for MURAL Festival, Bar Datcha, NYC label Key + Needle and Singaporean label Super Snacks.

With this momentum, LIA finished developing her debut Vasilia EP co-produced with Montreal’s Lust and Thomas White. Drawing inspiration from the slavic folk tale of Baba Yaga, Vasilia depicts Lia’s journey of finding resilience in the mind, resilience as a woman and resilience in her relationships.

LIA’s releases of 2019 have so far proven that this will be a year of monumental growth for the young artist. LIA’s first single of the year, Out of Control, landed her a premiere with Nakid Magazine and a spot at #1 on Hype Machine’s Popular chart as well as a re-release on Parisian boutique label Maison Kitsuné. Her collaborative EP with Thomas White titled Drifting continues to gain streams after landing in editorial Spotify playlists such as New Music Friday Canada, New Music Friday Norway, Evening Commute, Outliers and Montreal Chill.

LIA has just released her mesmerising electronic pop EP, ‘VASILA’ which follows her latest single, ‘Come and Seek’ accompanied by music video.

LIA states:

I wrote this EP as I was coming into myself. It was a period of my life when I learned how to love myself and what it meant to show myself respect. The root of this EP grew from the word resilience; Resilience in my mental health, as a woman and in my relationships. Upon building the lyrics and the universe of this project, pieces of inspiration found their way to me. I wrote Out of Control based on the story of Hansel and Gretel. I wrote Milk & Light from the story of Vasilisa The Beautiful. I wrote Kissel Shore from the folk tale about the land of Milky Rivers and Kissel Shores that I discovered through the photographer Uldus Bakhtiozina.

As a child, I was surrounded by story. One in particular was from a computer game called Baba Yaga. More recently, I decided to read the actual tale behind the character and I fell upon Vasilisa The Beautiful. I felt like her story was an accurate homage to my lived experience emerging from my teens into my early twenties. Trapped by Baba Yaga, Vasilisa has to trust in herself and the universe to face seemingly impossible high-stakes tasks to gain her freedom. She prevails and Baba Yaga sees that the universe is on her side so she’s too pure to kill. I realized I was the one trapping myself. I was accepting relationships that didn’t make me feel good, binge-drinking and not trusting that I was capable enough to achieve the goals I wanted. I was battling depression and anxiety. I felt isolated and helpless. I had to start showing myself love. This EP is the mental diary of my transition into loving and respecting myself. These are the lessons I learned living the tale of Vasilia.”

Beth is Keeping The Country Story Alive with New Pop Single

Indie Pop Artist

Beth Keeping is a singer/songwriter from Surrey, UK. Drawing influences from both traditional country storytelling and modern pop music, Keeping delivers a fresh and modern take, creating songs that speak about real situations. Her honest lyrical approach and emotive vocals have built her a reputation as an artist to watch in the UK music scene
Inspired into the music industry by artists such as Delta Goodrem, John Mayer and Martyn Joseph, Keeping found herself travelling the world, writing and recording in the UK, Singapore, Ireland, Estonia, Andalusia and America. Her debut EP Fool, which was recorded in Nashville, showcased her love for country music and its powerful ability to depict vivid stories through sound. However, her most recent single ‘Building Bridges on the Dancefloor’ marked a move towards more mainstream pop, whilst reserving her signature authentic anecdotal lyrics.
‘San Francisco’ narrates letting go of a moment or person and wondering what may happen if you could only have another chance. Keeping wrote the song after a five week backpacking trip across South East Asia found her connecting with someone from San Francisco. A missed opportunity left the singer thinking, “I’ll probably never see you again, but if I’m ever in San Francisco would you care?” The emotions are captured through Keeping’s use of genuine lyrics and heartfelt vocals. Cascading with delicate pop soundscapes and floaty melodies, the track which is reminiscent of Taylor Swift meets Nina Nesbitt glistens brightly, creating an infectious pop anthem. ‘San Francisco’ garners influence from Lauv and his capacity to emit a pop essence, with emotive and detailed lyrics that make you feel like you’re there in the song with him.
Keeping reveals,
“I want to write about real situations, to create music that makes people breathe a sigh of relief and say ‘Thank goodness, I thought it was only me who felt that way’. Valuing honesty and realness in my writing style is key – it’s important to me that my music recognises and deals with both the fun and the difficult times of life”.
As founder of ‘Write Like A Girl’, an initiative that puts the spotlight back on female songwriters, Keeping is an advocate of championing the rights of women and equality in the music industry. Keeping shares, “It’s an idea I’ve had for years after I woke up to the gender imbalance at networking nights I was going to. In fact, only 17% of songwriters in the UK are women (PRS for Music, 2018)”.
Currently running monthly showcases in London, she will embark on a second ‘Write Like A Girl’ tour in November 2019. Keeping has also seen success winning a PRS songwriting prize in a Mayor of London GIGs competition, as well as reaching #3 on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart for her debut EP.

The Soulful Sounds of Samuel Jack Commands An Audience

Pop Soul Singer

Samuel Jack is a unique and emotive storyteller whose rugged soulful vocals command the room. Raised on Blues, Motown, soul and roots music, the London born singer spent his formative years in Johannesburg with his Father, a film director. The rich fabric of his childhood informs and oozes into the music he creates today which has been resonating with audiences across the globe.

His newest track ‘In My Head’ is a song inspired by Jack’s own experiences with mental health, a topic very close to his heart. The honest, open and very candid single exudes passionate vocals and compelling melodies. Considering himself somewhat of a ‘mental health survivor’ Jack has learnt how to successfully live with it, emerging stronger than ever before and even learning things about himself that he never realised.

Jack confides, “For me, I struggled with depression and anxiety – and in my eyes, despite having a history of mental health issues in my family – I’m certain my issues were born through situation and subsequently has come to affect every aspect of my life. Romantic relationships, professional ones; it really took hold of me”.

The acclaimed singer spent years juggling two extremely high pressure and demanding careers. His work in hospitality, where he was immersed in high stress environments at Rosette and Michelin star kitchens was challenging alone; however, combining it with the exhausting lifestyle of a musician, self-funding records, self-promoting and touring across the nation, ultimately took its toll. Days and nights of this rigorous routine took him to boiling point, where he found himself thinking the only way to escape was to hurt himself.

The musician is speaking out now, publicly for the first time to shine a light on the importance of recognising and helping others with mental health issues, as it can happen to anyone at anytime.

“Fuck the stigma. We’re not all crazy, we just struggle inside sometimes”, expresses Jack.

‘In My Head’ is the musician’s way of venting about his frustrations and hopes that it may be of comfort for others, reminding them that they are not alone and we are all in this together.

Samuel Jack’s career has found him performing at some of the world’s biggest festivals, landing multiple TV placements on shows such as Shameless and Nashville, as well as garnering acclaim from the likes of Clash, Music Week, Live Nation’s Ones To Watch and the BBC. He continues the next chapter of his fascinating journey with ‘In My Head’ currently available worldwide.

Sätilä Combines Fresh Fusion Of Infectious Indie Music

Finnish born, London based artist Sätilä, aka Teemu Sätilä, combines a fresh fusion of infectious alternative/indie music with rich pop soundscapes. Having started writing songs at the age of seven after learning the piano, Sätilä spent his formative years in an alternative rock band before moving to Sydney, Australia, where he studied songwriting. His time spent there defined who he was as an artist and the songwriter soon realised his ambition to create something that was entirely his own, eventually heading back to Europe to follow his own sound.

Leading single ‘Like You Do’ was inspired by past relationships and narrates the struggle of receiving love from someone who you think is more gracious and trusting than you are. Highlighting Sätilä’s velvety vocals and impressive range, the track comes to life through twinkling synths, pulsating basslines and vibrant melodies. The musician reveals,

“This song has been the defining cornerstone of a bigger body of work I’ve been working on when it comes to production and the sonic vision”.

Produced by Mikko Pennanen, the song emulates fragments of Foster the People and Tame Impala, featuring analogue synths and illustrating Sätilä’s goal of blending organic and electronic elements together.

“When I was a kid I listened to a lot of mainstream pop and as a teenager I got into alternative and indie rock. I feel like that has shaped me more than I thought it did. I know people say indie rock has had its moment but I’m just not sure. It still makes me feel. I think there is room for all sorts of music so why restrict people’s expression just because it’s not a trend and if it still makes people feel something”, expresses the Finnish native.

Sätilä hopes his music will be an aid in times when you feel you are not enough. Through uplifting lyrics and building progressive components, ‘Like You Do’ transforms into the ultimate pep-talk, self-love anthem. He confides, “I hope my music inspires people to live their life to the fullest. Make the change you need to make whether that’s circumstance or your attitude. Make the dream a reality. Love yourself and others. Make every situation better when you come around”.

Sätilä has seen success with his previous releases garnering close to a million streams on Spotify alone. He has received attention from the likes of YleX (Finnish equivalent of BBC Radio 1), as well as being playlisted on official Spotify playlists in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Canada. ‘Like You Do’ is currently available worldwide.
