Beauty in Chaos and Curse Mackey Catapult Driving Gothic Rock Anthem ‘A Kind Cruelty’

The Sound Of Amongst Liars Are a Loud and Fierce Powerhouse

Gothic Rock Band

American alt-rock supergroup  Beauty in Chaos presents their new single, ‘A Kind Cruelty’ ft. Curse Mackey. This is a taster of Beauty in Chaos’ forthcoming full length album ‘The Storm Before The Calm’, to be released on May 22 via LA-based label  33.3 Music Collective . Recorded at Ciravolo’s own SAINTinLA Studio, it was produced by Michael Rozon, Grammy-nominated for his work with Ministry.

Beauty in Chaos is the brainchild of guitarist Michael Ciravolo. Originally from New Orleans and now based in Los Angeles, he is best known as President of Schecter Guitar Research. He also played guitar in Human Drama for 30 years, in addition to playing live and recording with Michael Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel since 1998.

This single follows ‘The Delicate Balance of All Things’ featuring The Mission frontman Wayne Hussey, the first single released off this album.

“When Michael Rozon and I finished this music track, I was a bit of a loss for who I should  approach about singing this one. Two different friends, Mark Thwaite (Peter Murphy/The Mission) and Steven Seibold (Hate Dept.) both suggested Curse Mackey.  I didn’t think I knew him, but it turns out our paths had crossed in our ‘other lives’ in the musical instrument world.  I thought his voice would be a great fit, and I especially liked his lyrical sense.  We hit it off well and I really enjoyed working with him on this song and video, and I do look forward to evolving him in future BIC,” says Michael Ciravolo.

The accompanying video was filmed and directed by Vicente Cordero, edited by Leslie Gladney, and produced by Industrialism Films.

“This is the ninth video we have done with Vicente Cordero and Industrialism Films.  I certainly strive to make each one unique, as with BIC not being a band in the traditional sense, the videos are really our ‘face’.  Since it is my goal to make this new album a bit darker than ‘finding beauty in chaos’, I felt ‘a kind cruelty’ really lent itself to going full-on darkwave.  I wanted it to be dark yet fun … even with some tried and true imagery!  It’s a bit tongue n’ cheek … or would that be teeth in skin?” asks Ciravolo.

Austin’s Curse Mackey  is a prominent performer on the darkwave, post-punk and industrial music scenes. He is known for his prominent participation in PIGFACE and ongoing stints with My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, plus past projects Evil Mothers and Grim Faeries. In 2019, Mackey released his debut solo album ‘Instant Exorcism’, featuring an appearance by Ronny Moorings (Clan of Xymox)’. Mackey has also collaborated with such luminaries as Ogre (Skinny Puppy), Martin Atkins (Ministry/Killing Joke), En Esch (KMFDM), Genesis P-Orridge (Psychic TV), Danny Carey (Tool), and Mat Mitchell (Puscifer).

Mackey recently found himself in the spotlight while filling in for goth legend Peter Murphy in Orlando, who was unable to perform at the final 40 Years of Bauhaus Celebration show in Orlando. Invited by Bauhaus / Love and Rockets bassist David J to stand in on vocals, they played to a sold-out Orlando audience, sowing the seeds for a new collaborative project between Mackey, David J and Rona Rougeheart of alt-electronic darlings SINE.

“When I first heard the instrumental, I was immediately captivated by the driving bassline and uplifting musical chorus. I was inspired by a PT Barnum quote referencing electricity and  to “put a little of it into your blood and we will beat the world” – that was the literal spark that fueled the words. I magined being in the desert under the stars, conjuring the energy to face the world.  I’m excited to be a part of the Beauty in Chaos project and to work with Michael and Tish. I admire them both as artists and entrepreneurs and to also be on a record with Wayne Hussey of The Mission, Seibold of Hate Dept. and the many other talented artists involved gives me a warm fuzzy feeling,” says Curse Mackey.

In 2018, Beauty in Chaos released their acclaimed debut album ‘Finding Beauty in Chaos’, followed by the ‘Beauty Re-Envisioned’  album (2019). Other BIC artists include Simon Gallup (The Cure), Al Jourgensen (Ministry), Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Pete Parada (The Offspring), dUg Pinnick (Kings X), ICE-T (Body Count), producer Tim Palmer, guitar icon Zakk Wylde, Ashton Nyte (The Awakening), Kevin Haskins (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets), Rolan Bolan, Michael Anthony (Van Halen), Michael Aston (Gene Loves Jezebel), Paul Wiley (Marilyn Manson), Michael Aston and Dirk Doucette (Gene Loves Jezebel), Pando (A Flock of Seagulls), UMMAGMA, Evi Vine, Johnny Indovina (Human Drama), Danny Lohner (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson), Betsy Martin (Caterwaul / Purr Machine), Kevin Kipnis (Purr Machine) and KITTY LECTRO, among others.

‘The Storm Before The Calm’ album will be released in late spring 2020 via 33.3 Music Collective. The album will be available at www.beautyinchaosmusic.com/music-store, as well as  Bandcamp. Beginning March 6, Curse Mackey will be touring the USA with Clan of Xymox and Bellwether Syndicate.

New Album and Single From Indie Rock Band Nightblade

The Sound Of Amongst Liars Are a Loud and Fierce Powerhouse

Indie Rock Band

Nightblade was formed in 2010, consisting of Mark Crosby, Dave Parish and Bill Fitzsimmons and Richard Jones.

The debut album Servant To Your Lair”  was released in 2011 and Nightblades first tour soon followed.

Whilst 2011-12 was mainly spent touring the UK, the band began work on their follow-up album Closer To The Threshold”.  This much-anticipated album was released in 2013, with Richard Jones being replaced by Rich Lawley on drums.

The album led to an extensive tour, including gigs at the legendary 100 Club in Camden, and at the O2 in Birmingham, where coincidentally the Black Sabbath reunion gig was taking place right next door. Nightblade were delighted to be able to hear the Sabbath soundcheck whilst in the process of carrying out their own.

Next up in 2015 was the launch of the Crisis Has No Prejudice” EP. It proved to be very popular, getting lots of airplay, and with the title track receiving great recognition and reviews.

Numerous high-profile gigs followed which saw Nightblade taking to the stage with highly regarded international acts such as Snakecharmer, Wolfsbane and Diamond Head.

With a reputation for consistently producing a solid blend of exciting and attacking rock music, Nightblade have attracted fans worldwide, particularly in Germany, Japan, Scandinavia and Europe in general.

Now with a settled line up of Mark Crosby on vocals, Sam Morse on Guitars, Tim Cutcliffe on Bass, backed up by Rich Lawley on Drums and keyboards, Nightblades combined creativity is a force to be reckoned with, producing fresh, innovative, inspiring and poignant material at a startling pace.

Their new album Ignorance Is Bliss  heralds a venture towards an alternative rock sound which is really quite remarkable, delivering powerful melodies, anthemic choruses and instantly infectious hooks.

Brimming with enthusiasm for this new direction, Nightblade are going for the jugular with this one.

Nigel Thomas Releases New Indie Rock Single ‘Your Fire’

Great Fire of London started, Humpty Dumpty and the mythological Phoenix”

Indie Artist

The London based singer/songwriter, DJ, actor has spent the last 18 months writing and recording his sophomore solo album ‘Well Well’ which has just been released by Keo Records, with artwork specially painted by Eddie Argos from Art Brut. The album was mixed by Sam Williams (Plan B, Gaz Coombes etc) and is available on heavyweight vinyl, CD and download.

As the lead singer and songwriter for indie rock band The Foxes, Nigel enjoyed several UK Indie Chart top ten hits, toured the world and recorded and released an acclaimed album mixed by John Cornfield (Supergrass, Razorlight, Muse) at Sawmills Studios in Cornwall.

After The Foxes disbanded, Nigel took the solo road, and to great success. Counting among his fans Mike Batt (who asked Nigel to sing in a special one-off performance of his new musical ‘Men Who March Away’ in 2017) Blur’s Dave Rowntree and Indie mogul Alan McGee, Nigel followed the success of his first single “Fever” and released his debut full-length album ‘Travelling Man’ (recorded at Tilehouse Studios by Luke Oldfield (Mike’s son) and mastered by John Davis (Led Zeppelin, Lana Del Rey, U2, Kaiser Chiefs) at Metropolis) to critical acclaim in March 2016, enjoying TV and radio support.

“Nigel Thomas is a great all-rounder. I met him first when I cast him as an actor-singer In a musical but was aware of his other life as a singer-songwriter, both solo and in bands. I’ve since seen him perform live in London and been very impressed. His new album is bright, intelligent, well-written rock/pop that should get him noticed and written about. He’s a driven, persistent artist and prepared to work hard for the greater success that I feel he will find one day soon”. Mike Batt

On Your Fire, Nigel says:

“It’s very much a song about London and a London girl I once knew, with references to Pudding Lane where the Great Fire of London started, Humpty Dumpty and the mythological Phoenix”

Exceptional Indie Rock from Singer Songwriter Matthew Tanner

Indie Rock Artist

Vulnerable and utterly mesmerising, Matthew’s raw and relatable lyrics have captivated our ears and hearts since bursting onto the scene back in 2017 with the release of ‘Healing’. Since then, Matthew has garnered thousands of streams across streaming platforms and built on his ever-growing fan base.

The 23-year-old singer-songwriter, originates from a remote town on the west coast of Scotland. Having studied classical music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Matthew began writing and producing his own music from a young age. After leaving RCS, he was soon performing his own material at iconic venues around Glasgow including King Tuts and Buff Club.

When speaking on the track, Matthew stated: This track represents the heaviest I’ve ever gone in terms of production. Listening to other Scottish bands such as Fatherson, I was inspired to make this track as dense as possible within the realms of what a singer-songwriter can do on their own. The song is usually performed live with a band to fairly replicate the energy produced on this record but also works acoustically as despite its high energy still has meaningful lyrics.

Matthew is set to release I Don’t Know on all streaming platforms January 17th.

Explore some Garage Rock From Primitive State

Garage Rock Band

Primitive State

Frank Starr Rock Zappa

Normally I would give a bit of biographical information on the artists I review to provide some context for the reader. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot to go on with “Primitive State” except that it is a garage rock band from Phoenix, Arizona that was formed by Troy Thomas after his father died and needed an outlet for what he was feeling.

On their latest album, “Frank Starr Rock Zappa”, “Primitive State” explore a from of indie rock that is part Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, part Pixies and Nirvana, part American gothic-era Nick Cave (think Henry’s Dream) and just a little bit Tom Waits. These are tracks that hint at tumbleweed, heat and life on the wrong side of the tracks. Standouts for me were “Streetwalker”, with its rock and roll swagger, the mariachi groove of “Wishbone” and the punk blast of “Hello God Again”. However, it is worth mentioning that this is a solid from start to finish – an homogenous album rather than just a collection of songs.

“Frank Starr Rock Zappa” is rough around the edges in places, but that is as it should be. Rock and roll is not meant to be polished – rather, it is meant to be (a little) raw and a challenge to the increasing sterility of our world. I enjoyed this album and would suggest that you take some time over the holiday season to give it a listen yourself.

Simon says 4 out of 5 stars.

We’re All Aliens Get A Life has landed with Debut Album Coming

We’re All Aliens Get A Life has landed with Debut Album Coming

Indie Rock Band

There was a moment at the beginning of 2019 when We’re All Aliens debut album looked like never happening. With studio time booked and a tour in the offing, the band’s plans were totally derailed by singer JJ’s cancer diagnosis.

“I was told the cancer was treatable but I might never sing again” says JJ.

With this in mind, the first single, ‘I Am an Alien’ hastily appeared to create the beginnings (or the endings) of a rock’n’roll footprint that had been sketched out by JJ and his long time collaborator and guitar player Biff

The band entered Neon Palms studios in Northwich in England’s North West where three quarters of the band hail from, with no one really sure if the band had a future at all given the question marks over the health of their singer. Sessions took place in between operations and radiation treatment resulting in the album and title track ‘Get A Life.’ It’s the urgent sound of a band in a hurry, playing quite literally, as if their future depended on it.
With flavours ranging from late 80’s anthemic with a hint of chilli pepper groove to the gnarly post grunge of Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden, it’s a sound firmly rooted in the US rock genre, one foot on the monitor and a fist in the air. The lyrics betray a thoughtfulness that lends itself to that slightly more English sensibility and its a concoction that works like a charm.
“In the end, just getting the record made felt like a dream come true in itself.” continues JJ.
The album starts with ‘Get A Life’ and finishes with ‘Second Chances. They bookend and ink the album thematically suggesting a willingness for everyone to get out there and live their best life. The other songs develop themes around humanity and a an optimism to connect people together. It has all the youthful optimism attached to that ambition, but the knowledge, experience and expertise of the real life grown up world.
The title track and the follow up ‘Where Do You Stand’ carry all the provocative hall marks of a classic hard rock band eager to make its mark. It’s the sound of their fifteen year old selves record collection with all the optimism to boot. The playing and the song-craft, however is the sound of grown up experience, weary of the times but optimistic for the future.
“We believe rock’n’roll can save your soul,” says Biff.
We’re All Aliens debut album is available now for pre-order, and will be released in February 2020.
Playing live:  Jimmy’s LIVERPOOL, Friday Feb 14th, with more dates to be added.

Boring Tapes Will Take You BAck To A Good Place

Electronica Duo

The Boring Tapes

“Butterfly”

Hailing from Tokyo, Japan, The Boring Tapes is the project of Hiromu Koinuma (Vocal,Guitar,Bass,Keyboards & Programming) and Sota Kodera (Chorus,Bass,Keyboards,Percussion & Programming). Inspired by indie rock, shoegaze and electronica, the duo produce music that is both modern in its sensibilities and retro in the sounds and feelings it evokes.

From their third EP “Samasara”, “Butterfly is a deceptively simple track characterized by sweeping synths, an 80s bass line, subtle funk guitar and wistful vocal lines that take the listener to a nostalgic place – a place that is better – a place that is longed for. It also is not over-polished, relying instead on a warm production style that only adds to the overall sound.

Accompanied by a wonderfully understated music video directed by Minasamez Paradise, this is a strong track that hints at a production duo whose stature will only build. “Butterfly” is sure to find an audience in the current music market – a market that, at its best, is characterized by a willingness to blend previous genre conventions into something new. Whilst I didn’t have the chance to check out the rest of the EP, if the single is anything to go buy, it should be a very good listen indeed

Simon says 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Indie Emo Band Pointless Releases New Single Half Empty

Indie Emo Band Pointless Releases New Single Half Empty

Indie Rock Band

Pointless is a 4 piece indie/emo band from Gloucester and Camden counties, NJ. Since 2017, the band has released two EPs, Dust (2017), Glow (2018), as well as two singles, “No Chances” (2019), and their newest release “Half Empty” which is streaming everywhere.

All music written by Pointless has been engineered and produced by Nik Bruzzese (Man Overboard) Ace Enders (The Early November) and Dom Maggi (1313) at The Lumberyard Recording, in Hammonton, NJ.

Along with the new release, Pointless currently has four music videos, all shot and engineered by Kurt Fowles of Sirius Cinema and Sirius Coffee Co.

“We have been growing and maturing as a band the same way we do in life every day. Every day we wake up, we try to be better than who we were yesterday. Whether we’re better or not, the effort is definitely there. This is our favorite track we’ve done so far and think it’s our best. We’re very excited to share it with everyone and the writing continues. We’ve been asked what this song means. Though there is definitely a specific meaning to it, it is open-ended to everyone who listens to it. After it becomes its own entity, I don’t think it has one sole meaning. But what I will say is that we just want to be there for people the same way music was there for us.”Justin Monturano (Guitar/ Vocals)

New Mellow Indie Rock Single, Good Riddance from Vacay Nick

New Mellow Indie Rock Single, Good Riddance from Vacay Nick

Indie Rock Artist

“The end of the year brings a time of great reflection. You mull over the highs and the lows and the in-betweens. Indie-rock singer-songwriter Nick Aranda, guitarist of Paper Route (currently on hiatus) and now known professionally as  Vacay Nick , steps back to consider what 2019 has wrought,” American Songwriter‘s Jason Scott wrote. “His new song and video, Good Riddance,‘ is a mellow, easy listening guitar jam that celebrates the good as much as the bad… An overcast mood stands in stark contrast to the colorful chorus of inflatable arm flailing tube men, a playful way of finding a silver lining. Aranda’s voice rises somber and plaintive, and yet his words carry a considerable bite. ‘Things were looking up / But now they’re f*ing done,’ he sings. Imposing grey clouds loom overhead, but like all storms, these too shall pass. ‘Good riddance to the bad times.'”

Filmed and directed by Aranda’s wife, Bree Marie Fish (Dan Auerbach, Josie Dunne) and featuring Paramore‘s Zac Farro on drums, the “Good Riddance” visual and single announced the Nashville-based alt rock act’s forthcoming debut album, Off Days, expected in early 2020.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Aranda is no stranger to the spotlight. Signing his first record deal fresh out of high school, the now 34-year-old has been on the road touring with various bands ever since. With Paper Route, he’s had Billboard-charting singles, music featured in major motion pictures and ad placements, and tour slots alongside Paramore, Imagine Dragons, and Mutemath, to name a few, but 2019 finally found Aranda with enough free time to make the solo record he’s always dreamed of creating. Now, armed with a fitting moniker (quite literally vacationing as Vacay Nick) and his veteran musicianship, he’s ready to send off the past by celebrating the future.

Good Riddance is about that crystallizing moment when you take stock on feelings, like you do at the end of each year, and all the highs and lows sort of flatten into either cheers or curses,” he explains. “It’s not necessarily about forgetting the hard times— there’s usually some good in the bad, and even a ‘good riddance’ is a welcome thing— but it’s about choosing not to let the bitterness of stale dreams, severed bands, or broken hearts influence the future. It’s discovering that ends hold less power than beginnings. So, shed your calloused skin.”

“Good Riddance” available now via SoundCloud ,  Spotify ,  Apple Music ,  Amazon ,  Tidal ,  Deezer, and  Google Play with the accompanying video streaming on YouTube.

Ten Minute Detour Bleeding Green with Indie Rock Single

Indie Rock Band

If you’re after some good quality indie rock, then Ten Minute Detour delivers with their latest single, ‘Bleeding Green’. What may take you back, to some degree to the 80’s, Bleeding Green incorporates some very cool current sounds making this single fresh and very appealing. With vocals that sing with an edge and sour effortlessly, get ready to start rockin’ on your weekend!

In many ways, “Bleeding Green” is a product of change.

Shortly after recording started on this new single, Andrew and Jordan – the founding and most central members – left their western prairie home, and headed east in pursuit of brighter opportunities.

They had to create their own experiences instead of just passively waiting for the world to find them.

The core of this song was recorded by a very different Ten Minute Detour than exists today; Andrew and Jordan’s move to southern Ontario resulted in over half of the band’s departure. With the help of their newest members, they felt inspired to revisit Bleeding Green as both a tribute and final voyage.

“We’re so grateful for our beloved alumni, and looking towards a bright, hopeful future.” say’s Ten Minute Detour
