Faded Shades Alternative Rock Release Catchy New Single She Left Yesterday

A heartfelt message of solace regarding a love lost to the allure of travel, ‘She Left Yesterday’ is the new single to come from alternative rockers Faded Shades. A jangle pop guitar riff creates the backbone of the song providing an upbeat melody for the drums and bass to dance along to. ‘She Left Yesterday’ is catchy and instantly recognisable. Drawing influence from the sound of Oasis, Catfish and the Bottlemen and The Who, the three piece pour their influences into their own music.

Describing their first album as a pipe dream recorded in a spare bedroom, this experience pushed Faded Shades onto bigger and better things. Now having finished recording their second album in Big Jelly Studio, they had the luxury of a week’s residency, a very different recording process to their debut. Their name Faded Shades refers to a Small Faces lyric and the concept of getting lost in something.

HOTMOTEL Playin Around With Cool Groove Bass and Gritty Guitars

Indie Rock Band

HOTMOTEL Playin Around With Cool Groove Bass and Gritty Guitars

‘Playin Around’ is the latest single to come from popular London based band HOTMOTEL. The product of a jam session, ‘Playin Around’ is locked in with its gritty hook and bass groove. Complete with hard hitting drums and David Bowie inspired vocals, ‘Playin Around’ came together relatively quickly, fused by the rhythmic bass line.

Starting out as a writing duo between frontman Rupert Ingham and lead guitarist Donald Ross Skinner (Julian Cope, DC Fontana, Love Against Ruin) HOTMOTEL have been rising in popularity in their home of South East London, regularly appearing at Herne Hills’ Off the Cuff and the Dorchester Court Festival. With Ingham’s dramatic structures and compelling lyrics that are tinged with sarcasm, combined with gritty guitars and distinctive bass lines, the group are known for their tight playing and well-chosen setlists.

‘Playin Around’ is now available on all major streaming platforms.

Another Dream, Dark and Impressive Song from Serenade The Stars

Indie Rock Pop Band

SeRENADE THE STARS – ‘DREAM’

Serenade The Stars is one band in which I have had the pleasure to follow and watch, and more importantly listen to and enjoy listening to the entirety of their music.

Quite often when sifting through music, there’s little time to listen to the entirety of a song, and recognising a good ‘thing’, a good or great artist, after 30 secs to a minute in.

This is not the case with Serenade the Stars.

The 5-piece indie pop rock band embrace change and seem to enjoy it while experimenting with their music, which has led to impressive stand-alone tracks.

Their latest song, ‘Dream’, is one that lifts you up as the chorus explodes into an impressive melody, souring through the stars. The production is smooth and grand as it begins with guitar picking and minor instrumentation, lifting into the chorus with well blended BV’s, sustained by a pad of electronic undertones before the wild and free guitar solo shows its stuff in the bridge.

Matthew Harman’s voice is outstanding as his vocals are seamless as he takes this song to another level. That said, the song itself, written by the band, is yet another killer.

As the lyrics resonate so close, to many; I would imagine. The opening verse ‘I wake up to the voice inside of me, and I’m calling out and I can’t even breathe. The coffee cup is tainted, I poured it in so gently wishing that the day would fade away.”

Dark and Mysterious are just a few words describing ‘Dream’, yet relatable to those who have loved and lost, yearning for things to be different; to be good again.

It has a sense of being lost within your own soul; perhaps struggling as life continues to move and shift in way’s no-one can prepare you for.

‘Dream’ is a surprise track from ‘Serenade The Stars’ following their impeccable ‘Reflections’ single which was released in December. You can read the review and hear Reflections here. REFLECTIONS – Serenade The Stars

Another Dream, Dark and Impressive Song from Serenade The Stars

Indie Rock Band Easy, Release New Single Crystal Waves

Sweden’s celebrated 90s indie rock darlings Easy have announced the impending release of their new album ‘Radical Innocence’ via A Turntable Friend Records . Ahead of this, they present the lead single ‘Crystal Waves’, the video for which was produced by Ian Holmes.

In the early 1990s, Easy was one of Sweden’s most notable indie groups. This year marks the 30-year anniversary of their highly acclaimed debut ‘Magic Seed’ LP, a critical success that spawned three alternative hit singles: ‘Castle Train’, ‘He Brings the Honey’ and ‘Horoscope’. The group also frequently toured Britain and Europe. While their ambitious ‘Sun Years’ LP (1994) had less of an impact, singles ‘Never Seen a Star’ and ‘Listen to the Bells’ clearly demonstrated that the band had taken several musical steps forward.

Easy suddenly disbanded in 1994, with members becoming involved in other projects. The mark they left was notable – when returning to Sweden years later, they found a new Indie scene full of bands inspired by their uniqueness and success, having toured all over Europe with bands like The Gun Club, The House of Love, Lush, The Charlatans and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Easy had something special with elements from pop history – the perfect combination of Sonic Youth-like intensity and the sweet harmonies of The Beach Boys.

In 2010, the group reunited with the original line-up, consisting of Johan Holmlund (vocals), Rikard Jormin (bass), Tommy Dannefjord (drums), Tommy Ericson and Anders Peterson (guitars). The reunion spawned the albums ‘Popcorn Graffiti’ (2012) and ‘Swimming With the Beast’ (2014), marking a new era of inspiration for the band.

The ‘Radical Innocence’ LP is Easy’s first new album in a decade. It is also the band’s third release via German label A Turntable Friend Records, the first being the ‘Magic Seed’ LP reissue in 2017 and the 2018 release of ‘A Heartbeat from Eternity’, a user-friendly compilation of the two previous albums, along with the fresh new single ‘Ask the Sky’. The group played live shows in the UK and Germany.

With a songwriting-production cycle that began in late 2018, the band worked with legendary producer Pat Collier, who was responsible for many of their favourite records, at his Perry Vale Studios in London. Everything has come full circle with the band returning to the British capital, where they recorded their debut album 30 years earlier – kind of a new start on the band’s path towards creating perfect pop songs.

‘Radical Innocence’ is an 8-track offering and their most ambitious album to date. Here, Easy is being easy. The songs are coherent and more refined than on previous albums. This new album also involves a new member – Ingvar Larsson, moog and keyboard master for post-punk outfits Camouflage and Dogsmile.

Working with Collier and Larsson helped the band to further refine their sound, achieving organic pop songs with sweet melodies, sharp guitars, impactful drumming, and clever lyrics.

‘Crystal Waves’ is available now across digital stores and streaming platforms, such as Spotify. The ‘Radical Innocence’ LP wlll be released on April 24, and will be available on vinyl, CD and digitally.

Indie Rock Band Puppet Theory Release New Single Modern Boys

Indie Rock Band

Manchester based indie rock band Puppet Theory are made up of their Liverpudlian frontman Chris Pickering (vocals and guitar), Johnny Hearldon (lead guitar), Niall Musa (bass and backing vocals) and Paul Gallacher (drums). Drawing influences from early 2000s UK indie rock, classic pop-punk melodies and modern indie pop, Puppet Theory’s energetic music has begun to make waves in the North West of England, gathering a cult following of younger fans.

With their energetic live performance and memorable choruses, Puppet Theory have played some of the biggest stages in the North West of England, including Manchester’s Academy 2 alongside ‘Larkins’, Liverpool’s Hanger 34 and Preston’s 53 Degrees in addition to Manchester’s Dot to Dot Festival and Macclesfield Festival in 2018. In July 2019 they packed out Manchester’s Deaf Institute at their biggest headline show to date.

The boys have gained support from This Feeling, Scruff Of The Neck, BBC Introducing in Merseyside and XS Manchester’s Clint Boon.

With a growing reputation for high energy performances and unforgettable choruses that leave you with a night to remember, 2019 was certainly no different.

Gracing some of the biggest and most legendary venues in Manchester, and not forgetting popping up on some of the local festival scenes, these guys certainly left their mark on whoever got the chance to see them live.

With 2020 now upon us, Puppet Theory now set their sights on a string of new year releases of arguably their best material yet.

With radio plays from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio Wales and Kerrang! Radio, the band look to build on top of the successful foundations that their previous single Katia laid.

Their latest single, ‘Modern Boys’, the band say”  Modern Boys is an almost satirical song about modern boys and girls. They try too hard, they think a lot of themselves but they can’t afford to take you out on a date. The band wanted to write an up-tempo track with both modern and classic indie influences to reflect the modern theme of the track’

Brain Dead Smooth and Raw Indie Rock New Single from Filmspeed

Indie Rock BandClassic rock with a new-school filter, Filmspeed rushes the ears and minds of all who hear the first few soulful notes of the infectious warning “Brain Dead.”

Punching the bass and drums like the Rolling Stones and the Kinks and pulling no punches lyrically, the single describes both the disconnect caused by media and the desire to rekindle a relationship with something more humane – whatever that be. Combining drummer Oliver Dobrian and bassist Nick Stout’s poppy yet hard, eager yet earnest riffs and rhythm and Craig Broomba’s yearning and rolling vocals, the band members act as alternative superheroes with this jangly call to arms and its brave, bass-y, backbeat. The power of Brain Dead gives raw rock ‘n’ roll and indie smoothness a run for their money in an effort to tame the echoing roar of commercialism with a beat that will get the listener as ready for anarchy as dancing.

The band had the following to say about the brilliant production masterminds behind the single.

“This went straight to analog tape, old-school rock n’ roll style. Minimal overdubs, just vocals and extra percussion, (you know, like sleigh bells and such). Mark at Station House in Echo Park really has that raw, vintage, and BIG sounding gear that feels cool even just hearing the playback. The producer on this track, Jason Hollis, is a true believer in both the rock and the roll. Anytime we get to work with him, we know it’s gonna be chock full of swagger.”

Bold and Brash New Single From London Rockers Flashfires

Indie Band

Having already supported the likes of Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Subways and Ash, it’s clear that Flashfires are already making all the right moves.

Able to count the likes of Huw Stephens and Jo Whiley as supporters, the London-based four-piece are turning heads wherever they go.

That however, should come as little surprise to anyone that’s familiar with the band’s razor sharp riffs, funk-fuelled rhythm section and idiosyncratic vocal delivery. With previous single ‘Manshark’ grabbing the attention of the aforementioned Huw Stephens, while establishing Flashfires trademark aesthetic: classic rock aesthetic kicking and screaming in to the contemporary, disregarding any of the pomp with which the genre was once synonymous.

New single ‘Circus Boy’ produced and mixed again at J Street Recorders in Sacramento (California) by Brian Wheat; bassist of US legendary rock band Tesla, sees on such aesthetics. Its crunchy guitars soon joined by a bold bottom end that shows that Flashfires aren’t here to mess about. Verses appear restrained, understated even, lulling listeners in to a false sense of security before its explosive chorus shows just how far Flashfires have come in the short space between releases.

Bold, brash and unafraid to throw their weight about, Flashfires are a band on the brink of blowing up and ‘Circus Boy’ could very easily be the sound of them doing exactly that.

If this single feels like a statement of intent from a band on the cusp of big things, their eponymous EP from which it’s taken feels more like an aphorism, a bold insight into what it means to be a 21st Century rock band. Far from a one trick pony however, Flashfires strikes a delicate balance between self-restraint and unashamed bombast. The likes of the afore mentioned ‘Circus Boy’ or the penultimate ‘Cezanne’ manage to harness the band’s inherent raw power, appealing to fans of both alternative rock while retaining an understated indie edge.

Elsewhere however, the likes of ‘Champagne On Mars’ or final offering ‘Life’s Cruel Line’ provide present a more melodic side to the band, allowing lead singer Alex Gonzato the chance to let his effortless vocals soar all the while showcasing the diversity which lies at the very core of what Flashfires stand for.  (Scruff of the Neck)

Cinematic Heart Pounding Shock’n’Roll from White Collar Sideshow

Cinematic Heart Pounding Shock’n’Roll from White Collar Side

Indie Rock Band

White Collar Sideshow has a vaudevillian feel with a horror movie twist. An original movie plays on stage and two drummers & the faceless woman (playing bass in a 9 foot go-go cage) provide the live soundtrack. The videos take you through the mind of an addict while the live characters draw in the crowd for a truly memorable Shock-n-Roll experience.

Recently signed with Curtain Call Records, White Collar Sideshow is an Arkansas indestructible husband-wife duo. Their shock-n-roll sound is a macabre mashup of country, rock, metal and industrial influences. Since 2006, White Collar Sideshow, comprised of TD (drums and vocals) and Veronica (bass and vocals) have intertwined its love of cinema and heart-pounding rock to create a visual and audio spectacle. Often compared to the style of Rob Zombie and Nine Inch Nails, they have toured 46 states, New Zealand, Germany, Poland, Brazil and Chile. The duo’s relentless efforts will culminate this October 2019 with their concept album release, I Didn’t Come Here to Die to be released by Curtain Call Records.

I Didn’t Come Here to Die was recorded with Chris Baseford (Rob Zombie, John 5, Nickelback, Avril Lavigne and more) in Los Angeles. The title track is a gripping single and showcases the duo’s self-described “space western” vibe. While on tour, White Collar Sideshow will be accompanied onstage with the also titled, I Didn’t Come Here to Die, their black and white original film. Filmed in conjunction with 5 Star Productions in the band’s hometown, Fort Smith, AR, the film pays homage to iconic noir Sin City and sometimes disturbing The Twilight Zone. The live soundtrack is a stunning and avant-garde performance piece done in only the way a band like White Collar Sideshow can produce.

If you’re into bands like Anberlin, Jimmy Eat World, Further Seems Forever, The All American Rejects, The Juliana Theory, Brandtson, Acceptance, Mae, and Eager Seas, then you’re going to fall in love with this new album.

Sienna Wild Release Exhilarating Gritty Single You Wouldn’t Know

Sienna Wild Release Exhilarating Gritty Single You Wouldn’t Know

Indie Rock Band

Indie rockers on the rise, Melbourne’s Sienna Wild have  announced their exhilarating, gritty new single You Wouldn’t Know, a track that places the listener in a strange and unsettling situation between two lovers. The group have also released a killer lyric video to accompany the track.  To celebrate all things You Wouldn’t Know, Sienna Wild is heading out on a national tour in January 2020, kicking off at Frankie’s Pizza in Sydney on January 2, then moving through Adelaide, Brisbane, and wrapping up with a hometown show in Melbourne at The Tote on January 31.

For fans of Catfish and the Bottlemen, Eskimo Joe and Arctic Monkeys, You Wouldn’t Know is an absolute firecracker of a song.  Soaring guitars reign, while searing, affecting vocals ride atop the arrangement with strength and power.  You Wouldn’t Know is pretty much everything a modern rock fan could want in a track, and is guaranteed to get you pushing your way through the dancefloor to bust a move.  Speaking on the interesting inspiration behind the track, bass guitarist and vocalist Louis Goutos enthuses, “The sentiment behind the single came from me setting myself a challenge of writing from the perspective of a third party in a break up.  Up to that point, our writing had been about power within a relationship, whether it be during good times or bad.  This time,  I wanted to write a song about an outsider who becomes involved in a break up, as opposed to the two protagonists telling the story.  It is essentially about a girl telling her boyfriend’s best friend she’s going to leave her man, but the boyfriend is too oblivious to realise.  Hence, he ‘wouldn’t know’, but the friend does!”

Sienna Wild are thrilled to be taking You Wouldn’t Know on the road, and it’s pretty clear why once you hit play on this track – it’s definitely one for a hot, sweaty, summer gig.  Giving fans a taste of what to expect from their 2020 tour, Louis says, “Fans can expect a tight rock performance full of swirling guitars, crashing choruses and compelling dynamics.  You’ll see a band who have conviction and believe what they say, and mean what they do.  A good time for all!”

As fans of music from the very beginning, Sienna Wild are a passionate group of young musicians who are excited to share this stunning new track with the world.  Reflecting on the formation of Sienna Wild, Louis says,
“Fortunately, I came from a musical family and there were always instruments around so I just started playing things and learning by listening.  I started off with the piano, then the drums, until finally the bass called, and that was when I found my voice (so to speak).  I found like-minded musicians and spirits in the guys from Sienna Wild, and haven’t looked back ever since.  Also none of us are opposed to a few beers and a good time… I reckon listeners should get around Sienna Wild now, before someone else gets there first! You might just be the one to say ‘I told you so’”

Sienna Wild is Louis Goutos (bass and vocals), Jonathan Giokas (lead guitar) Lewis Ciavarella (rhythm guitar and backing vocals) and Lucas Manitta (drums).

Indie Rock Pop BandTurbo Widget is probably equally known for their creative sound and their compelling, heart-felt lyrics. This is illustrated perfectly in their new release on for November 29th, 2019, maintaining their one single a month drive, for “Fear”. The song is a call back to their indie roots while also pushing forward. Minimal guitar, with a driving beat and the husband-wife vocals that have become a Turbo Widget signature. The video for “Fear”, released simultaneously with the single, shows a HUGE leap in production value and complete professionalism, telling an animated story that makes the song’s message come even further to life.

Feel Good Vibes in Big Doses from Indie Band The Goldhearts

Indie Rock Band

The Goldhearts

“Stars”

Back in my university days, I was fortunate enough to experience a music environment in which you could tune into the national “youth radio” and hear the sounds of grunge one moment and the twang and joy of Britpop the next. Not only that, but you could then attend festivals such as Livid, The Big Day Out and Triple Z Market Day where you could see those very artists perform live.

Listening to Gold Coast band, The Goldhearts, led by singer Margy Joughin, I was transported back to those days. Borrowing equally from The Breeders and James, The Goldhearts make a brand of indie guitar pop that delivers feel good vibes in big doses. Their latest single, Stars, is a catchy number that combines grunge, pop and a little country twang into an infectious blend. The song doesn’t hold back with its positive message, with the chorus declaring, “It’s going to be alright now”. In the words of the band, this is a celebration of bliss free summer living that has been a long time coming.

Stars is an unapologetically fun song. Full of great guitar licks, catchy vocals and a mid-tempo groove that will have you swinging (and singing) along, you need to take some time to give it a listen.

Simon says 4 out of 5 stars.

Futility the Alternative Rock Banger from Trident Waters

Futility the Alternative Rock Banger from Trident Waters

Alternative Rock Band

Futility is the third single release from the E.P Hollywood To Vegas which is out now.
Hitting your senses and coming at you like the offspring of a whisky drenched Led Zeppelin and Hawkwind, TRIDENT WATERS’ infectious groove and contagious riffery are sure to ignite.
The London-based threesome were born in 2015 and feature the aural talents of Andrew Knightley (Vocals/Guitar), Wilson Zaidan (Bass), and Greg Zaka (Drums).
Taking inspiration from Rival Sons, John Lee Hooker, Winery Dogs, Albert King, and Joe Bonamassa, the band despatch an engrossing alternative-rock sound that is underpinned by edgy blues rock.
TRIDENT WATERS are steadily picking up new fans and have already extensively played throughout the UK, sharing stages with genre legends such as Michael Schenker, Hawkwind, Shark Island and Procol Harum.
In the over-saturated Rock world not many bands have the capability and musicianship to stand out from the crowd.
TRIDENT WATERS achieve this very feat. Playing passionate, powerful hook laden tracks, they blaze a trail ahead of many of their contemporaries.
Having previously self-released two EPs, Tales Of Conflict and Devotion & Seven, the groundwork is now in place for TRIDENT WATERS to propel themselves to the vanguard of the UK rock scene.
The band’s new EP, Hollywood To Vegas, was released in June 2019.
It’s the trio’s most accomplished work to date and 2019 is shaping up to be a monumental year for the band.
Their latest single and video, Futility is available now at all good streaming sites and via their youtube channel. “Futility is a desert rock banger. It’s a song about the constant struggles we all face and identify with day to day. Sometimes it feels like everything is getting on top of you. Like you’re being swallowed by an Ocean of noise. This songs reflects those feelings and the fight to overcome”.
Upcoming Gigs

23rd November – Duffy’s Bar, Leicester
30th November – Croydon Rocks Festival, Croydon
12th December – Portland Arms, Cambridge

Great Music Has a Permanent Effect On You | Colour Machine

Great music has a permanent effect on you. You remember where you heard it for the first time, what you were doing…I remember when I heard The Dark Side of the Moon for the first time, I remember falling in love with Bowie’s “Life on Mars?” sitting at an upright piano in a practice room at my high school. If I can recreate even the smallest amount of that greatness in my music, I will be a happy man.

I’m Anthony, and I’m the drummer/lead singer from Adelaide alternative rock trio Colour Machine. We’ve been kicking around for a few years now, but as a band we started back when Tom (guitar) and I were hanging out when we were in Year 7, and wrote a song together. It was just an instrumental (I hadn’t really found my voice yet), and looking back now I don’t think it was as good as we probably made it out to be…but it inspired us to create. From there we kept writing and starting playing live a couple of years later.  Recording and releasing music came next, and we continued to build ourselves up around Adelaide.

In 2015/2016, we felt it was time to really take a stab at writing and recording a cohesive artistic project, and we began working on what would eventually become the “2” EP. A lot of time went into the writing, recording, mixing, final bleeps and bloops and the like, so that it sounded exactly how we wanted it to.

And you know what’s funny? Looking back now, there’s about a million things I would change.

I’m really proud of that EP and all the time and effort that went into it, but there’s so much I’d do differently if I had the chance to do it over now. But that’s hindsight for you, I suppose. We released that EP with a companion piece called “Live Session” which actually came together quite naturally – we booked 5 days in the studio to track the “2” EP, but finished tracking on the 4th day. Deciding not to waste a day, we called our friend Raff to come down and film the next morning, and we played some songs that didn’t make the cut.

Those projects came out in 2017 and we played a bunch of shows around Adelaide to promote them, whilst writing and putting together our next project; we wanted to strip back a lot of the craziness we’d piled onto the “2” EP and showcase what we could do as a three-piece. We also wanted to not just be that cliché rock band that plays ridiculous power chord songs for half an hour, which we felt we could easily become if we weren’t careful.

What we ended up with was a 6-track EP full of funk, hip hop and folk inspired alt rock. Not sure if we stripped back the craziness, looking at it now…

It’s a lot more honest than our previous stuff, both lyrically and musically. I wanted to really talk about some stuff that had been playing on my mind while we were writing it, and as a result a lot of the EP is quite personal for me. It’s definitely a new experience for me to share so much of myself in a release like this, but I hope the personal side of it helps listeners connect with it.

“21st Century” and “Maverick” are out now – the rest is on the way. Give them a spin on all your listening services and we’ll be back with more new music very soon.

Talk soon, big love.

Anthony
