Who Can Sleep Delivers Stunning Contemporary Indie Folk Pop Single

Indie Folk Pop Duo

Who Can Sleep are an indie folk- pop duo based in California. Having met while sharing a bill at the historic El Cid venue in Silverlake, Dean Vivirito and Lex Helgerson quickly discovered a spark, both musically and romantically. Vivirito wanted to start a project that wouldn’t be held back by labels or genres and so the two set out with the intention to create a contemporary sound that is both fresh and diverse. Combining ethereal instrumentation, country tinged guitars and stunning vocal harmonies, the project entitled Who Can Sleep is a cross-genre exploration of sound.

Helgerson composes heartfelt, candid lyrics as a vehicle for stories of inspiration. Who Can Sleep’s latest single “All Your Love” started as a dream. The songwriter instantly jotted down her visions when she woke up, painting a beautiful kaleidoscope of sounds and lyrics. Helgerson confides on the meaning of the song,

“Dean is very selfless in our relationship. He inspires me to be more generous, and sometimes I wonder if I give enough. I wanted to express the feeling that I might not be giving as much as I receive”. The contemplative track shimmers with soft, floating vocals, delicately twangy guitars and gentle percussion. Vivirito shares, “I distinctly remember while rehearsing the song, we were working on the tempo and groove and it was too fast. I told Lex the listener should be reminded of that post-sex feeling”.

The duo are heavily inspired by the likes of Bruce Springsteen, so much so that they recently covered Side A of his seminal Born in the USA album. The two also find inspiration from great country classics, as well as modern tastemakers such- Billie Eilish, Blood Orange and Childish Gambino.

Uncomplicated Pop Infused Folk is Poetic ‘Bliss’ from Amie K

Indie Folk Artist

Amie K

‘BLISS’

Uncomplicated Pop Infused Folk is Poetic ‘Bliss’ from Amie K

Upcoming indie artist Amie K hails from Liverpool UK and has just released her latest single ‘Bliss’ which is the first single from her forthcoming album.

Amie’s talent as a storyteller through her music is uncomplicated and refreshing, and while I’m not too sure about her age, her stories are poetic and quite mature.

‘Bliss’ is no exception with captivating melodic verses along with enchanting lyrics of self-reflection and the realisation that her existence is exactly where she is meant to be.

There’s an encouraging message as the chorus breaks open lyrically with an expanse and feeling of freedom. Amie reveals she is happy and capable of turning anything around.

Musically the production is infused with pop elements of percussive loops and rich harmonies.

What I do find gratifying, is the optimism from young artists such as Amie, writing and recording folk style music that is not lyrically or does not sound like so much of the majority of commercial music. This is a never-ending commodity as it keeps the music interesting as an artist grows revolving, exploring and allowing the music to resonate as it’s sung and performed from the heart.

After all, isn’t that what music is about?

To give people hope, striking a chord (excuse the pun) and taking the listener on a journey?

Tracey gives 4 out of 5 stars.

New Music From Songstress that Thinks Outside the Square Ebony Buckle

New Music From Songstress that Thinks Outside the Square Ebony Buckle

Indie Artist

Ebony Buckle is a London-based singer/songwriter. Hailing from the seaside town of Townsville, Australia, Buckle was encouraged into the entertainment industry by her parents, studying singing, violin, piano and drama and before long she completed a degree in opera singing. Taking listeners on a whimsical leftfield-pop journey with her complex harmonies and imaginative storytelling lyricism, Buckle sings about topics covering everything from romance and broken hearts to disgruntled mermaids, lonely whales and alien invasion.

Realising that the only way to be in true control of her own creativity and express herself authentically was to start her journey as a solo artist, Buckle jumped in head first and has not looked back since. She confides,

“I am a naturally shy person and sometimes find it hard to be myself in front of other people, but music has really helped me connect to my true self. I feel like the songs I write come straight from my brain and they are a true expression of who I am”.

Following the release of her debut single ‘The Mermaids Said No!’, the quirky songstress is introducing her follow-up single entitled ‘Susan’. A track dedicated to her imaginary best friend and alter ego, Susan the Raptor. Mixing elements of whimsy folk, with fanciful pop melodies and infectious lyrics, all baked in to one big Ebony Buckle cake, the delightfully eccentric musician has created a delicious sound, bursting with vibrancy and charm. Emitting a joyous feeling with a hint of melancholy, the track highlights the singer’s operatic trained vocals, which shine brightly throughout. Buckle reveals,

“Susan was born one night after too much prosecco and the name just stuck. She is the carefree, risk-taking and sometimes reckless side of me. I think we are all made up of many different personalities and I just decided to name one of mine! Mostly we wanted to make a really joyful track that would make people smile”.

Reminiscent of Regina Spektor meets Kate Bush, Buckle is inspired by other strong female artists who have forged their own path into the music industry. Aspiring to create music which will help others realise their most authentic self and encouraging people to always take life with a pinch of salt, Buckle confides “I hope it inspires people to be true to who they are. To not be afraid of being different and to know it’s ok to express themselves”.

The singer come actress has performed in West End plays, as well as a BBC drama, where her role as a Geordie folk singer saw her music reach number 1 in the iTunes World Music Charts. She has also received extensive airplay from numerous BBC stations across the nation, as well as garnering blog attention. In the words of The Mind Monster Solution author Hazel Gale, “It’s a rare thing to find music that speaks so directly from (and to) the heart. Wonderful!” Buckle continues to feed our imagination with her beautifully kaleidoscopic music. ‘Susan’ is currently available worldwide.

Impressive Debut Single from Folk Pop Band The Pairs

Impressive Debut Single from Folk Pop Band The Pairs

Indie Folk Band

The Pairs are a folk pop group powered by 3 classically trained vocalists and a former punk rock drummer from London, Ontario.

The Pairs are a 3 part-harmony, 1 and 1/2 pairs of twins, and friends from birth, this classically-trained band have released their first single, ‘Did I’ from their debut album, Noise, due out 15th November.

Upon listening to The Pairs, you’ll find an energetic lift take over with a sense of familiarity yet refreshing sound for today’s modern day music.

‘Did I’ clearly shows the professionalism and quality this band posses, drawing a comparison to the likes of the famous three sister act, The Corrs, and a very bright future ahead for The Pairs!

‘Did I’ is about Building authentic, strong and healthy relationships with other people is perhaps one of the most complex things to navigate as humans.

It’s an anthem that emerged from the tense and sometimes self loathing feelings that often follow disagreements.

“”Did I” aims to tell the story of letting go of blame and trying to look inward to find peace and comradery. The track switches between angst and ease as it articulates both the tension and sweetness that comes from living in tandem with others.”

“The Pairs album, Noise, is a collection of songs written from a place of hope, hilarity, tragedy and questioning. It seeks to engage with the often chaotic experience of human life — whether it’s the noise of the world around us, the internal noise we try to make sense of, or simply the noise we can’t help but make as we fumble our way through our own beautiful journey.”- The Pairs

The Pairs band members are: Hillary Watson, Noelle Coughlin, Renée Coughlin, Steve Plimmer
