Morgan Joanel Shares a Slice of Seductive Alt-Pop with New Single ‘Disappear’

Alternative Pop Artist

Fuelled by self-belief and a passion that itself is fuelled by talent and hard work, Morgan Joanel is steadily building a creative empire that spans beyond her native art-form of music into visual and wearable art. An unbridled spirit, Morgan has been a creative force for the last decade Australia-wide and beyond, recently returning to her hometown of Perth to create her latest music release. Whilst her ride from independent to major label artist and back again has been a rollercoaster of big dreams and stifled creativity, the highs and lows have only strengthened her resolve and lifted her game to a world-class standard. Specialising in seductive alt-pop songs, this energy abounds on Morgan’s latest single,  Disappear – marking the highest point of her storied music career.

Blessed with a smoky, honey-toned voice, Morgan’s music has always had an alluring quality, highlighted especially in her evocative live performances where live looping of layered harmonies, beats and guitars showcase her musical abilities. From a creatively frustrating experience signed to the world’s largest major label to the freedom and artistic limitlessness of her own independence, Morgan is merging both music and art into a multi-dimensional vision. The concept: a 5 track EP with visual artworks to expand on the music; was funded entirely by her widespread fanbase through a hugely successful Kickstarter.

Whether singing, songwriting, or creating artworks; her natural curiosity and strong worth ethic has always been at the centre of Morgan’s successes, and indeed her happiness. If the excellent standard of her work can be attributed to anything, it is this. Sometimes though, it is a bolt of lightning sent and received without effort or intervention. Lead single Disappear, as the perfect example, was written in 15 minutes… coming completely naturally as if to say the song wrote itself. Ending a bout of writer’s block, Disappear came just days before Morgan was scheduled to enter the studio, and was a much welcome sign of good things to come.

From traversing the USA working with Grammy-nominated producers, to hunkering down in Perth’s Blackbird Studios with the esteemed team of Adrian Breakspear (Gang Of Youths) and Dave Parkin (Tired Lion, Abbe May) Morgan has experienced more of the music industry than most. Building on her live sound of intricate loops and rich husky vocal hooks, Disappear is undoubtedly the right move for Morgan as she proves herself the talent so many others have heralded her to be.

Dorah Jacson Releases Heartfelt New Single “LURKING”

Indie Pop Artist Zoe Sky Jordan Releases New Music

21 year old Dorah Jacson (a.k.a Kayla Smart) is quite the mellifluous soul, and a talented songwriter to add, possessing a heartfelt yet whimsical writing style. She delivers songbird like vocals, accompanied by driving guitar licks, all forming her own dark and dreamy stylings of indie, pop, and alt-rock. Following the release of her debut single “Away” in February 2019, Dorah Jacson quickly gained rave reviews from Triple J presenterswas featured on Home & Hosed, added to Unearthed rotation, and given the opportunity to open at the Big Pineapple Music Festival on the main stage. Dorah Jacson has since released the single “Sinking”, and played her first headline show at Solbar Maroochydore to an amazing response. Dorah kicks off 2020 with the first single “Lurking” from her forthcoming EP set to be released on March 6th.

Produced, mixed, and engineered by Nicholas Wilson at Rockinghorse Studios in Byron Bay, “Lurking” was written within half an hour, with Dorah explaining the track “is for anyone that’s had someone get in their space when they are not welcome. Most people will think straight to physical kinds of harassment, but online harassment through messaging is where this song came from for me. It’s been real scary seeing a lot of people thinking they can say whatever they like to whoever they like online, so I’m hoping this song can raise more awareness on the issue. One of those incidents happened one day and I just blurted out what was on my mind over this chord progression I came up with.”

The Sunshine Coast local started off by playing solo around the area, gaining a loyal following through her captivating performances before her first single had even been released. Now with a band behind her, featuring Erin Ellis on lead guitar & vocals, Lachlan Pearson on bass, and Nick Keogh-Peel on drums, Dorah Jacson has been able to take her performance to the next level.  This raw emotion and passion that shines through in the live set has recently led to a great performance at Brisbane’s Mountain Goat Valley Crawl

Come Alive with New Indie Power Pop from Aspy Jones

Indie Pop Artist Zoe Sky Jordan Releases New Music

Aspy Jones releases his new single ‘Come Alive’ recorded in Brisbane by James North Productions.

‘Come Alive’ is a power pop song with a very serious message. “Come Alive was written about women who I see, spending their lives trying to make other people happy but not thinking about their own happiness”, says Aspy,  “I am surrounded by strong, independent women and it saddens me when I see other women who are not in control of their own lives and their future is in the power of someone or something else. I wrote this song to encourage them to be the person they want to be and I hope they find the strength to do that”

Twenty-two-year-old Aspy Jones was shocked that his debut EP ‘Tantamount’, was such a success. It was funded by the Regional Arts Fund and three of the tracks released reached the top of the Triple J Unearthed Charts.

Aspy has been entertaining crowds at venues and festivals across Queensland including the Gympie Music Muster, Rockhampton River Festival, Rush Festival, Hervey Bay Seafood Festival, Peregian Originals, Hot 91 Fire in the Sky and was even showcased at the Sunshine Coast Music Industry Conference, Turn Up.

Aspy Jones did not have the easiest of childhoods and was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome at 8 years old. “Finding a place in the world is not easy for people with autism”, says Aspy, “And I was embarrassed for a long time, but now I think my different ability helps my creativity as a songwriter”.

Aspy’s unique character, great sense of humour and personality always spills out into his lyrics. “Song writing is my life, I write songs to try and entertain, encourage or just to connect with people. I always feel really happy when someone says they relate to my lyrics”, says Aspy, “I also love messing around with the words and making them fit, it’s like a verbal game of Tetris”.

Australian Indie Pop Artist Lili Kendall One To Watch

The Sound Of Amongst Liars Are a Loud and Fierce Powerhouse

Indie Pop RnB Artist

Los Angeles-based Aussie artist and songwriter Lili Kendall is presenting the official music video for her single “i am my own.” Made in collaboration with feminist filmmaker/director Caroline Iaffaldano , the highly cinematic video revels in extravaganza and absurdity, following Lili through a trilogy of intergalactic travels.

Known for her kitschy and camp visuals, filmmaker Caroline Iaffaldano creates art that challenges the status quo and unravels certain societal standards applied to women. In the “ i am my own” video, Lili voyages through the depth of the universe, experiencing love in several forms along her way before ultimately finding the truest form of love and expansion within herself. “Regardless of the planet or galaxy she ends up in, Lili lands in her own body and is able to receive herself in her limitless capacity she calls home,” Iaffaldano writes.

Lili Kendall wrote “i am my own ” while trying to find comfort in a time of transition and doubt — her move from Brisbane, Australia to Los Angeles, California. Through self-exploration, Lili came to the realization that she can be her own home, her own temple, her own safe place, and her own familiar feeling. It’s about loving and honoring the relationship with self.

22-year old Lili Kendall is setting herself up to be a pop newcomer to watch. After rolling out a number of enchanting singles in 2019, Lili’s debut project, love, herself, is set to be released in early 2020. love, herself is a transformative and healing body of work that chronicles womanhood, self-empowerment, love, and life. ”I have found peace in the lyrics of these songs,” Lili writes, “writing this project has been how I processed and released all that I’ve encountered over the last two years. I hope listening to these songs has the same effect on people that they’ve had on me.”

Jake Marra Releases Debut Single The Day That You Left

The Sound Of Amongst Liars Are a Loud and Fierce Powerhouse

Australian Pop ArtistOne of Australia’s most exciting new pop artists Jake Marra has today announced his magnetic debut single The Day That You Left, a hard-hitting track that details the wave of emotions that follows a significant loss, and how it feels to be drowning in the swell.  This hypnotic single is out today, March 2.

The Day That You Left will be everything and more for fans of Charli XCX, Troye Sivan and Dua Lipa – heartfelt, sincere lyricism paired with an irresistible beat and killer, sharp production.  The sentiment behind the track is intensely relatable; most will identify with the feeling of being fixated on everything said and done by someone just before they leave you for good.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, Jake explains,

The Day That You Left is the product of all the failed relationships I’ve experienced in my life.  It focuses on the denial that floods in when somebody is no longer in your life and the harsh wave of emotions that comes with it.  Whether it be a falling out with a friend, a break-up, or a death, most of us have experienced the feelings that come with losing somebody and I wanted to channel that into a dark, pulsating synth-pop track (produced and co-written by the brilliant Ben Oldand) that you can still bop along to while simultaneously crying your eyes out.”

It’s definitely fair to say Jake Marra has absolutely nailed the ‘dancing while crying your eyes out’ aesthetic championed by Robyn’s iconic Dancing On My Own, and all within his very first single.  It’s really no surprise though – Jake has been musical for many years, and even has a viral hit under his belt, as he says,

“I’ve been musical my entire life, which is the answer that everyone gives, but the difference is that I had no idea I was any good at it.  It was something I did in secret when nobody was around to hear it and eventually, I started to realise I had something to offer.  I started two YouTube channels, one for singing covers, and one for mashups I produced.  In 2015, my mashup of Ariana Grande’s One Last Time and Justin Bieber’s What Do You Mean? went viral.  There were articles about the mashup on Teen Vogue, Billboard and MTV, and Ariana Grande herself even said in an interview that she was ‘obsessed with it’ and that ‘whoever did it is a genius!’ Since then, I’ve been performing at various venues/festivals with Sunshine and Disco Faith Choir, as a backing vocalist for Melbourne R&B singer/songwriter, JAYDEAN, as well as working on original music.”

The Day That You Left is out today, March 2.

Being asked to write about something about myself that people may not know about me really got me thinking.

As an artist I have the luxury of sharing more personal experiences through music as well as interviews, however there are always so many things that get left unsaid. I don’t mind a little secrecy and in some ways I am a can be a very private person, but there are certain stories I don’t mind sharing, particularly those that overcome mental burden.

Australian Indie Artist

This leads me to one of those stories, which I’d like to share for the first time, about when I injured myself on stage during a sold out show in front of over 400 people in 2016. I have previously joked in private that the thing that was bruised that day was my ego, although I actually tore some serious cartilage in my left hip, left untreated cartilage doesn’t heal, without the proper recovery regime it can develop into chronic pain.

So I threw myself into the rehab and tried to keep myself in high spirits mentally.

In reality I was sinking into a pretty low place, and throughout that time I started developing negative thought patterns and unhealthy practices that I still catch myself in now – luckily I’m aware where it came from and am able to disassociate from those thoughts.

Throughout that rehab period, I began to associate things that would usually bring me so much joy (performing on stage and exercising) with physical pain.
I still continued performing and exercising, but it wasn’t the usual liberating experience I was used to.

Loooong story short, I chose to take ownership of an exhaustive rehab regime and through that dedicated work and I can honestly say I’m stronger mentally and physically than I have ever before.

Australian Indie Artist

Instances that would usually let get in the way of my performances no longer phase me. Cause hey, what’s worse than when you fall over in front of over 400 people when you’re the only one on a stage that is set up in the round (where you’re in the middle and the audience literally surrounds you) and you flash them incredibly un-glamorous underwear? (You know the beige ones that stick to your skin so you have no panty lines? Yep those ones.)

Reilly Stapleton Releases Unsettling Eclectic Rock Ballad

Reilly Stapleton Releases Unsettling Eclectic Rock Ballad

Australian Rock Indie Artist

Empowered songwriter Reilly Stapleton has today announced her enthralling new single Impulse, an unsettling, eclectic rock ballad about the fine line between our morals and our devilish impulses. The intriguingly dark song is accompanied by a brilliant, slasher-style clip, directed by Michael Sadler (Teenage Dads).  To celebrate the release, Reilly Stapleton will be playing a residency at God’s Kitchen in Mornington on the first Tuesday of every month until the end of the year, and an exclusive one-off show at The Grace Darling in Melbourne on November 1.

Impulse explores the darker side of the human psyche, leaving no stone unturned.  Reilly’s powerful vocals take centre stage, as guitars scream and synths swirl around her.  ‘Is it bad? I’ve gone mad, smashed the bottle I had in my hand,”, Reilly expresses her deepest, darkest thoughts, in the perfect amalgamation of lyricism, vocal delivery and instrumental arrangement.

Impulse is reflective of the constant battle between our negative impulsions and our inner consciousness that provides you with a positive moral compass” explains Reilly. “The song uses violence, anger and control in order to convey this unavoidable conflict.  When somebody has a short tolerance of anger they can withstand, it is generally our consciousness that holds us back from lashing out.”

The clip for Impulse is appropriately creepy and unsettling – the perfect accompaniment to this ghostly track.  The video centres in on a whimsical tea party gone completely wrong, as the main character finds herself picturing the grisly deaths of her fellow tea party attendees.  Speaking on the concept behind the haunting clip, Reilly explains,

“The protagonist struggles with maintaining self-control when it comes to the loud and obnoxious guests, so she begins to imagine the ways in which the guests could be murdered and her mind can once again be at ease.  The guests become more irritating as the event goes on and she becomes quite irrational and exasperated…on her final murder spree, it seems she may have gone too far – the audience will be left wondering if her impulse really did take control.”

Reilly Stapleton will be celebrating all things Impulse with some intimate live performances, beginning with a residency at God’s Kitchen in Mornington on the first Tuesday of every month until the end of 2019, alongside an exclusive headline show at Grace Darling in Melbourne on November 1.  This young powerhouse’s vocal prowess is a force to be reckoned with, and paired with her humble, welcoming stage presence, she is an impressive live act.
