Melbourne-founded  Allegro Live, the startup behind  Australia’s largest musician marketplace that wants to make it easy to book a musician or band for your event, has closed a seed funding round led by Uluwatu Capital.

The funding will be used to expand its team and begin paid marketing in a bid to increase the demand side of its marketplace given that the marketplace already has thousands of musicians registered.

Led by Heather Clarke, Allegro Live was born to provide the fastest, most transparent way to find and book great musicians for weddings and other events – corporate, private and public. It is another example of a company that disrupts the traditional agency model, where agents typically add margins of 100% + on top of the fees that musicians are paid.

Heather Clarke, CEO and co-founder of Allegro Live, said “Finding musicians for an event can be daunting, unless you’re prepared to pay huge booking agency fees and deal with reams of contracts, invoices and old-school payments. Finding musicians yourself can take weeks. Once you’ve finally found the right musicians, the phone calls and text messages begin, along with organising the logistics of the venue, deposit payments . . . And what if the musicians don’t show up?

“I founded Allegro Live to demystify the process of hiring bands, musicians, singers and DJs, allowing event hosts to find musicians that match their requirements quickly and for a fraction of the price of booking agencies.”

James Cotton, Founding Partner of Uluwatu Capital, said: “In addition to making it easier to book musicians and bands, Allegro Live will have a huge impact on musicians who are tired of being ripped off by traditional agents. The marketplace aims to improve pay and conditions for the musicians themselves by cutting out (and replacing) the traditional agencies who often don’t have the musicians’ best interests at heart, thus bringing transparency to an industry that desperately needs it”.
