There’s Little That’s ‘Not Right’ With Fonzie

Making his appearance just a year ago, Fonzie could easily be regarded as a relative newcomer to the UK Rap scene but with his determination, work ethic and unquestionable talents, the rising star is ticking off benchmarks faster than most and catapulting his sound in to the stratosphere.

Teaming up with producer RNDM, ‘Not Right’ is the latest release from Fonzie. Featuring the left-leaning sonics that have become synonymous to his sound, the track lyrically lends as an intro to those that haven’t come across him before as he begins to build a picture of himself over the last year and how he treads the line between music and the ties he has to the road. As is the case with many rappers on their road to stardom, the space between choosing a full time music career and leaving the roads behind is littered with draw outs, ties and the constant call of money – it is this space that Fonzie lyrically delves in to.

Having peppered the scene with numerous joints throughout 2018 he racked up an impressive 300,000 streams and reeled in support across Beats 1, Spotify (Certi Playlist), Capital Xtra, BBC Radio 1Xtra, was nominated for a MOBO Unsung Award. Keeping all fires at 100, Fonzie has stepped in to 2019 with even more to prove and following the drop of ‘Pop Up’, which was celebrated and supported widely, he then sold out the Islington O2 Academy for his debut show.

Now launching his own label ‘Noir’ via Absolute Label Services, which sees him join a star-studded roster that includes Krept & Konan, 67, Dappy, Yungen and Ay Em, Fonzie debuts his first label release ‘Not Right’.

New Single From Leah Voysey; You Can’t ‘Keep It To Yourself’

Leah Voysey is a pop performer, who combines current pop sounds and synths with her roots at an acoustic singer/songwriter. She puts a focus on creating compelling and unique lyrics molded around powerhouse vocals. Voysey does not shy away from controversial topics such as sexuality, drugs, and depression in order to create stories that others can relate to.

Of the track, Voysey says, “With this song, I wanted to explore the allure of a secret romance. You see each other in a crowded room, but no one else knows what happens when you get each other alone. There’s a fire and intensity behind the vocals, as I describe the charm of this purely physical connection.”

Terouz, ‘outstanding’ is Cinematic Storytelling on A Treadmill

Indie Singer

Life as you know it takes a darker shade, when you loose a loving parent.
As if a grey, film-thin veil has been dropped in front of your eye sight. Your entire existence is shaken.

It was that massive emotional blow that saw me re-emerge as the hypnotic, noir TEROUZ.

Terouz first single is an ode to his journey of renewal. “It documents a major growth spurt of self-acceptance, letting go, going for it, forgiveness and deep love, not to mention tons of hysterical and sombre sarcasm – my life experience steeped in loss, pain, and fierce reality checks. All of this led me to wisdom, strength, love, and a deep appreciation for good old, consistent groove. Outstanding documents this cycle.”

Last year felt like a never ending s#%t storm.
With the shadow of my father’s passing laying over me, my musical aspirations were hitting a wall with my band and I was pretty close to pulling the plug on it all. I stopped everything to take care of myself. I dove deep into writing, belted out (in despair!) improvised vocal lines to recorded melodies while running up and down the Mont Royal…everyday, like an obsessed work-out maniac. I focused on getting clear.

Outstanding” was born; an empowering Rocky-esque anthem that speaks to the excitement and surge of energy I feel towards being back!

I hope this song serves as a source of inspiration to anyone going through hard times.

They never last. Know that things will get better.

UK electronic stalwarts Nature of Wires announce new ‘Modus’ album

Electronic Band

British synthpop stalwarts Nature of Wires have announced their new double album ‘Modus’, to be released today, August 16 via Manchester’s  Analogue Trash label. Comprising 18 tracks, this is 80s-influenced synthpop with a dark edge. The album had its genesis in the late 80s and early 90s, when the band were in the middle of a creative hot streak.

Ahead of the album’s release, Nature of Wires are whetting our appetites with the 2-track single ‘Madame Serena’, featuring a remix by electronic body music and electro-industrial artist Leaether Strip, and two additional tracks: ‘Every Single Sun’ and the remix of ‘First Light’ by European electronic giants Mesh.

Nature of Wires was formed in 1986 in Herefordshire. The original line-up was Gary Watts (synths & programming) and Andrew Stirling-Brown (vocals). The band went on hiatus in 1994 until reforming in 2015. In 2016, they released ‘Cyber Rendezvous’ with California’s CountessM on lead vocals, their first album since 1993’s ‘Modus Operandi’. The band’s live shows were enhanced by the addition of Tim Powell-Tuck on electronic drums, with a UK tour and BBC appearances.

“Modus has been 33 years in the making and includes songs written between 1986 and 1993, recreated using 21st century technology.  We want to look back on this album in 20 years’ time and be satisfied that it is as good as possible,” says Gary Watts.

“So we’ve involved some top producers – namely Steve Whitfield (The Cure, The Mission, Shed Seven, Terrorvision, Jah Wobble) and  Mike Marsh  (Calvin Harris, OMD, Human League, Chemical Brothers, Moby, Shamen, Massive Attack, Erasure, 808 State, The Prodigy, Depeche Mode). Artwork is by the super-talented  Vlad McNeally.  This is our final farewell to our younger years, representatives of the sound we created back then”.

CD1 features 8 original tracks, forged during a time of personal and musical change, and with striking clarity in this music and lyrics. But now, with access to top of the line music technology, Nature of Wires have refined and reinterpreted the inner soul and meaning of each song to create something that reflects an exciting time in the history of electronica and dance music, while also holding its own in the modern synthpop scene.

On CD2, Nature of Wires curated re-imaginings of tracks on CD1, offered by alternative electronic heavyweights Leaether Strip and Mesh, UK post-punk buzzband Klammer, and label-mates Room 1985, The Cowls and AtomZero. Applying their own vision whilst being faithful to the spirit of the originals, they’ve each re-interpreted the tracks in their own impeccable styles, adding to the sense of history that underpins ‘Modus’.

There’s a sense of finality to ‘Modus’, as well as a statement of intent for the rebirth of Nature of Wires, coming to terms with the past in a glorious and positive fashion, and preparing for an exciting future.

“CD1 presents the retro-electro, ‘lighter’ side of our writing, influenced by the synth-pop of the 80’s & 90s scenes. A ‘definitive’ version of the material we had back then, but with a modern edge. It brings together the core of our older fan-favourites and the very first song we wrote and one left unfinished in 1993, finally completed over 20 years later! We envisioned CD2 not just as a collection of remixes, but a deliberate companion or twin to ‘Modus’. This is not a double album; it’s a dual album,” says Andrew Stirling-Brown.

Nature of Wires has appeared with many great electronic artists, including Empathy Test, Leaether Strip, Aesthetic Perfection, Lord of the Lost, The Frixion, Rodney Cromwell and Vieon. They also created remixes for the likes of Massive Ego, Leaether Strip, Sigue Sigue Sputnik Electronic, !distain, Precog, Advance, Freakangel, Machine Rox and Vogon Poetry.

On August 16, the ‘Modus’ LP will be released everywhere digitally and as a 2CD digipak. The album can be pre-ordered via BandcampAlready now, the single ‘Madame Serena’ is also available. Nature of Wires will be touring the UK from late July to November.

St Joan cherish lost childhood memories on “Ride me to School”

EP Cover

Some songs connect like no others can. Perhaps it’s a mesmerising voice, or an undeniable melody, or in this case, it’s the story and the raw emotion of a piece that grips your heart, tightens your chest and momentarily takes your breath away. In the same way that Bon Iver casts a spell with haunted yet vulnerable music; Daniel, Christopher and Alasdair facilitate the connection from artist to audience and pain to peace through the sounds they create. St Joan are a meticulous band – often it’s the space in between the notes that cause as much of a stir as the ones that are strummed. That’s the result of five years of songwriting and soul-searching. In this performance, the band wrap their arms around Daniel as he reflects on his childhood.

A softly strung but emphatically performed ballad – recorded in a single take with Gang of Youths producer, Chris Collins – “Ride me to School” shines a light on the challenges of parenting and the perspective of a son during separation. As cracks begin to appear, someone who was once your hero begins to look more like the villain. Memories become that much more important to remind you of the person they really are, like, as Daniel says, “rewinding a VCR back to when life was small, secure and free, and love was boundless.”

Chris Jobe’s Emotional New Song Really does ‘Make It All Better’

Indie Singer

Chris Jobe pulls on the heartstrings with his emotional new song, ‘Make It All Better ,’ featuring  Abigail Rose . The Nashville-based multi-instrumentalist penned the song with his collaborator, and the pair trade verses on the song about addiction,”  The concept was taken from real life, as he and producer/co-director Olivia Timms have both dealt with addiction in their families.”

“The narrative conveys a loving friendship that is seemingly perfect on the surface, but as the story progresses, we learn that my character is struggling with drug abuse,” Jobe explained. “From the L.A. Zoo and a desolate collection of cages and empty exhibits, to a motel party and a graffiti’d drug house, [director] Daniel Watt helped us capture the parallels between the objective world (Abigail’s reality) and the addict’s world (my reality)… We hope this video can get people talking about addiction more openly, as its usually something that is swept under the rug in malignant embarrassment.”

The industry tastemaker debuted Jobe’s touching new visual last week ahead of his appearance on NBC’s Songland on Tuesday, August 13th. The video’s accompanying track topped Apple’s “Breaking Pop” and Spotify’s “Pop Right Now” playlists.

Jobe, who writes, plays, and produces all of this own music and graphics, released his debut single, “ Thank You Internet ,” last year, reaching over 1 million views on Facebook  after the platform discovered and promoted the music video for the track. Since then, the Dayton, Ohio-born and LA-based musician has made a name for himself with his clever visuals , ace musicianship, and heartfelt songs, earning praise from Earmilk, Ones to Watch, and All Things Go, among others.

Nadisko’s Electronic Dance Single; Hypnotic percussion percolates underneath wistful, beautiful vocals

Electronic Music Duo

Electronic masters Nadisko have today announced their iridescent new single Take Me Away, a track made to be spun in the summer (or to heat up the winter months!) out Now.

The group, consisting of Alex Hopkins and Blake Wood, have also released a stunning lyric video to accompany Take Me Away.

Nadisko formed during the Myspace glory days of mid-2008; an era when MGMT’s debut album was being blasted all over the radio and ultimate-cringe head-to-toe flouro attire was widespread.  They quickly cemented themselves as premier resident DJs in Sydney, and from there they gained airplay on BBC Radio One for their debut EP, they supported Steve Aoki, Tiga, Uffie and heaps more massive names, remixed Peking Duk’s first EP, and played shows all across Australia, Europe and Mexico.  It’s been a wild ride, and the guys are super excited to be back with their new single Take Me Away, as Wood enthuses, “After a four year hiatus, we have developed a more mature sound, using the knowledge that one gains after 50 releases and a love of dance music.  We are super keen to release new music and share it with everyone!”

Evocative of electronic dance auteurs RÜFÜS DU SOL and Crooked Colours, Take Me Away is the much-needed antidote to a chilly Australian winter.  Hypnotic percussion percolates underneath wistful, beautiful vocals, and it’s a masterclass in electronic dance production and arrangement.  Offering a little insight into the inspiration behind the track, Hopkins says, Take Me Away is an intimate, summery, poolside tune with a hypnotic guitar riff and dreamy soulful vocals.  It is a new direction of what we are vibing musically, and in that, something we have only recently tapped into.  It was inspired by equality and relationships.  With the world being so busy and with so much division, we often struggle and forget to spend time with those closest to us.  It was inspired by a very tough time for us in our lives and was used as a form of escapism.  It comes back to the idea of a ‘perfect’ dream or idealism of what relationships should be like.  It brought us back to the things that are important to us in life.”

Nadisko are a part of the Hot Sunday Records label family, run by Australian DJ and producer Color Castle (Christian Pilot), joining the roster alongside Sidney Charles, Miguel Campbell, Dennis Quin and more.  Hand in hand with their label, Nadisko are ready to celebrate their return with Take Me Away. Wood describes how the pair’s relationship has developed over the years and how honing and interchanging their skills has resulted in Take Me Away, saying, We both work in media and have a penchant for everything television and movies.  We first met socially and uncovered a joint passion for music.  Alex had been making music since he was 12, from this, I took care of the live element and Alex was mostly production, with these roles changing often over the years.  Between this and music, I guess you could say we have a very proactive work ethic after years of relying on each other through various hurdles!”

Roman Rouge Drives Home New R&B Single, ‘Nobody’

RnB singer

Roman Rouge is a R&B pop singer/songwriter from El Paso, Texas. Born with music running through his veins, the musician was exposed to the industry from a young age and never looked back. Despite various struggles which he faced throughout his childhood, including his single mother trying to make ends meet, Roman took every obstacle in his stride, ultimately building his character and making him who he is today. Through every failure came strength and eventually the hardships paid off.

The passionate and driven artist now not afraid of anything that may come his way, is ready for the next step of his journey. Inspired by personal events and poignant moments in life, the singer confides, “The message in my music overall is always relatable, something you’ve been through can and always affect the decisions you make in the future. My songs are linked to each other, I like to convey a story and be as honest and forthcoming as I can”.

Following the release of his debut EP Voicemails, which garnered acclaim from his local music scene, with single ‘Fast Car’ receiving notoriety throughout El Paso, Roman is dropping his highly anticipated track entitled ‘Nobody’. Written by Frawley and produced by Beacon Hill (Khalid) the song narrates the desire for wanting a reciprocal feeling from the person you like. Within the intensity of the song there is also a vulnerability that comes along with it. Featuring energetic bass and drums, which contrasts with the soft, raspy vocals, ‘Nobody’ evokes an impassioned and fiery essence through it’s stunning cinematic soundscapes.

Influenced by the likes of Majid Jordan and The Weeknd, Roman is following a similar path to creating music bursting with personality, whilst encouraging others to be their most authentic selves. Roman reveals, “The main theme of my music is to be aware of why you are who you are, and how you can let your past experiences define you, learn from your mistakes, move on and be better”. Roman continues to deliver audiences with his unique and fresh combination of moody and sweet tones, emphasizing the contrast between light and dark.

Jeff Carlson Band Returns With New Rock/Metal EP, “Second Chance”

Metal Rock Band

Sometimes life gives you a second chance! Not always, but sometimes. It’s what you do with those second chances that counts.

The Jeff Carlson Band announces their return, bringing a new hard rock / metal sound to fans with the release of their long-awaited EP, “Second Chance”. The forthcoming record is is set to be released on August 6th through Potomac Records & The Orchard.

Along with the album announcement, which also marks the release of the first single and video from the album, “Screamin’ Inside” premiering exclusively via on Sleaze Roxx. Jeff Carlson is currently touring regionally and will be playing the House Of Blues Friday, August 23rd.

In 2001, Jeff was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, as well as Crohn’s disease.  He had gotten sick, and was rushed to the hospital to have emergency surgery, to which he actually died for almost three minutes on the operating table. The Doctors removed all but six inches of his large intestine. He then underwent 4 more surgeries, and still continues to deal with both of these diseases today.

Jeff met and started playing in the band Liquid Skye with Robbie and Cory, from 1998 until 2004, and he relocated to Tucson in 2006, to which we all reconnected with Robbie and Cory driving out to Tucson to do a show with in 2010, and the band got a distribution deal in 2018, while still in Tucson. In October of 2017. The band leader flew out to Vegas to shoot his first video and record the band’s first release on Potomac- (Never Be Another You) with Robbie, and a local drummer just for the recording, but shot the video in the same week as he recorded the song, so because of that, Jeff and his wife were ready to come back to Vegas. They moved back out from Tucson to Vegas in June of 2018.

“I moved back to Vegas, and Cory was available as well as Mike our drummer (he played in a previous band here in Vegas with Cory and the band broke up a month or so before I moved back as luck would have it), so Cory was freed up along with Mike and everything basically just fell together. I felt I now had my second chance”…

The band has also been recently signed with new management Big Noise Now (Alice Cooper, The Beach Boys, Christina Aguilera, Red Hot Chilli Peppers), and is working with Guitarz Forever Music Mktg. & Promotion (Shrapnel Records, George Lynch, Eric Gales, Paul Gilbert) to give this new album the push it needs to help get the band on some major summer festivals.

The releasing of the new E.P. “Second Chance” is material that will connect with rock audiences everywhere who loved the 70’s and 80’s classic rock scene. Jeff the spokesman for the band… along with Robbie Wolfe his guitar player are kind of like Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora says the vocalist. The band’s no nonsense high energy straight ahead rock music is built around our killer rock and roll live performances.

“Some of the highlights on the album are the way my vocals came out. I give Robbie Wolfe all the credit in that department. He is a genius in not only arranging, but layering vocal harmonies, adding different parts such as strings, and adding different harmonies to the chorus’. Robbie also writes great lead guitar solos that you can actually hum, almost like another vocal-line to play to the song and to make it as good as it can be.”

Soulful Rnb Swagger Ben Kessler with Pop Charisma That’s Better Than ‘Good Enough’

Ben Kessler blends soulful tradition, R&B swagger, pop charisma and singer-songwriter spirit with lush instrumentation and alternative adventurousness. A gifted writer and producer, the Philadelphia-native possesses an instinct for infectious hooks and emotionally resonant arrangements. Kessler sings with an effortless, rough-hewn quality that complements his introspective, intimate lyrics. Drawing comparisons to Kevin Garrett, Tom Misch, SG Lewis, HONNE, Bon Iver and James Blake, Kessler’s music is simultaneously familiar and new. His ambitious productions float freely across traditional genre-boundaries, yielding a truly unique, modern listening experience.

As a kid, while Kessler’s peers spent their time as gamers, he studied the greats – Stevie Wonder, Hall & Oates, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan – and honed his craft as a writer and producer.

“When I was 13, I borrowed my Uncle’s old audio mixer and grandparent’s bookshelf speakers and made a ‘studio’ in my basement. I spent all my days and nights fine-tuning recordings – I burned them to CDs and had my parents drive me to concerts so I could hand them out.”

One of these CDs found its way to legendary Philadelphia radio DJ, Helen Leicht. That week, 14-year-old Ben’s self-produced basement recording was put in rotation on the venerable, nationally-syndicated radio station, WXPN. A stint of shows followed; within two years of hearing his song on the radio for the first time, the young performer had amassed an impressive 200 shows across the US and Europe. Along the way, Kessler racked up a number of accolades: the top honor from the National YoungArts Foundation, recognition from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and a Finalist award from the International Songwriting Competition.

Kessler moved to Nashville to study English at Vanderbilt University, excited to live in an industry city for the first time. There he quickly established himself as an artist, songwriter and producer to watch in Nashville’s burgeoning non-country creative community. Multiple sold out shows and hundreds of writing sessions with Nashville’s best writers and producers later, “I felt like I’d gotten a bit too caught up in what I thought people wanted to hear rather than what felt authentic to me.” That’s when Kessler met one of his musical idols, Jack Garratt. “He told me to lean in to whatever the thing is that had always steered me in the right direction. That’s been my heart. So, I’m listening to that now.”

Kessler found himself yearning to create in the very room in suburban Philadelphia where he started making music. And there’s some magic in that room. Kessler’s debut single, “Good Enough” is the first of a new batch of songs that the multi-talented Kessler has written, recorded and produced there. Released through his own label, VYB, Kessler’s memorable lyrics explore themes of self-doubt, love, vulnerability and self acceptance. Kessler’s vocal cuts through an unexpectedly rich combination of smooth synthesizers and intricate classical guitar arrangements. The song marks an exciting evolution in Kessler’s work. “These songs,” in Kessler’s words, “just feel right.”

Kessler’s world is one of unexpected contrasts. He addresses relationships, self-doubt and and his struggle with anxiety with an air of optimism. He combines conversational and poetic lyrics through a unique blend of organic and electronic textures. His rough-hewn vocal tone challenges his tight melodies. He interprets the spirit of the classic artists he loved listening to as a kid with modern sensibilities of contemporary artists.

With singular focus and determination, the multi-talented Ben Kessler is quickly becoming one of the most exciting new artists to come out of Nashville.

Opeongo Releases New Single ‘Less Of Me’ With a Strong Message About The Art Of Loving

Indie Singer

“‘Less of Me,’ ”like most of my music, was inspired simply by my need to make sense of a lot of inward negativity, feelings of deep-seeded inadequacy.”

There’s a duality in “Less Of Me”

These dichotomies are birthed out of inward reflection and quickly put to rest by outward reflection. No matter how inadequate I have felt, there are a million ways to feel smaller. What I’ve learned is that you can let such a notion overwhelm you, or you can let it humble you.

In the song, I’m attempting to articulate that no matter how dearly you hold someone, your love can be easily compromised at the hands of your own self-loathing. One needs to learn to love and respect themselves in order to love fully unto another, otherwise one cannot trust the heart and mind within that allow us such joys as love. This is a concept I still often struggle with, but its recognition was pivotal in my continuance.
“Less of Me” is off Miasma, Opeongo’s forthcoming debut LP.

It features appearances by some great musicians like Daniel Romano, Aaron Goldstein, Aaron Comeau, Carleigh Aikins, and Arif Mirabdolbaghi. Aaron Goldstein also produced the album, while the record was mixed by the talented Christopher Stringer, and mastered by Grammy-nominee Philip Shaw Bova.

“This year I’d love to tour and get to see more of the world and meet folks from all over by means of doing what I love.”

It’s ‘Not My Fault’ If You Fall In Love With Indie Rockers ‘Mylk’

Indie Rock Band

Lovable indie rockers Mylk have today announced the release of their fun new single Not My Fault, a hooky track about being a bit of a bad luck magnet, set for release on August 8.  The group have also released a fittingly entertaining and super endearing clip for Not My Fault; it’s a one-shot-wonder bursting with youth and personality.  And they’ll be celebrating the release with an exclusive hometown show at the Grace Darling Hotel in Melbourne on August 23.

Not My Fault is the perfect example of what Mylk is – a bit cheeky, undeniably catchy, with idiosyncratic vocals and colloquial charm.  Not My Fault is an uncomplicated yet extremely effective track, kind of effocative of jangle legend Mac Demarco but still with a unique Mylk spin.  Thrilled to be releasing the track, Nathaniel Peacock, lead vocalist of Mylk says, “It feels great to be releasing this track after working so hard on it for such a long time.  We love the song, and to finally be able to show it to the world is exciting and relieving, hopefully it gets stuck in people’s heads!”  Not My Fault was inspired by a simple melody, and the song was completely written without any lyrics at first.

“It was while jamming the song instrumentally that we just happened to sing the words ‘it’s not my fault’ to the tune of the chorus and the rest of the lyrics just came together.  The lyrical content of the song is not meant to be taken super seriously at all, with the track aiming to be fun and catchy, and something to make people move.”

The clip for Not My Fault is just as eccentric as the band themselves, as the viewer is taken on a spectacularly quirky ride through a classic sharehouse environment with a surreal twist.  Working alongside Jack Wilson-Lee of JWL Productions, there’s puppies, hairdryers in the bathtub, backyard amateur theatre, and more, and it’s all tied together with a wonderfully apathetic performance from Mylk.  It’s tongue-in-cheek, but it has a lot of heart, and it does a great job of convincing the viewer that Mylk would be a pretty fun group of friends to have.  Explaining the inspiration behind the clip, Peacock says, “The video is a bunch of small sketches where different events occur that are seemingly ‘Not My Fault’, this idea of doing multiple lighthearted sketches was our idea from the beginning of planning the video, as well as creating the effect that the video was filmed all in one take.  We wanted the video to emphasise the lyrics in the song, as they do tell somewhat of a story.

Mylk are celebrating Not My Fault with a show at Melbourne’s own Grace Darling Hotel on August 23.  Giving fans a taste of what to expect on the night, Peacock enthuses, “We really take pride in our live performances, and I think we can all say that playing gigs is our favourite part of being in a band and making music.  Mylk gigs tend to be a great time, at least for us, with a fun and safe environment for all encouraged.  We make sure that our recorded music is exactly the same as our live performances in terms of sound, and that the shows give everyone a memorable experience and an excuse to shake yo booty.”

Mylk is Nathaniel Peacock (lead vocals, guitar), Harry Bohmer (lead guitar), Julian Addati (bass guitar), and Ewen Stewart (percussion, backup vocals).

Johanna’s Pop Single Will Have You Singing In The ‘Shower’

Written by Kuvaja herself, the single was mixed and mastered by award winning London-based producer Sefi Carmel , who has been mixing music of real icons such as David Bowie, Phil Collins, Bruno Mars, Michael Buble, Massive Attack and Birdy. The song itself was recorded in Helsinki, Finland at Saumaa Records by Mikael Forsby, who also provided instrumentation.

A singer-songwriter and music teacher from Tampere, Finland. She has a long history of working in music, in collaboration with various renowned Finnish musicians, winning music composing competitions, touring the country as a duo and pop orchestra, and performing on Finnish television as part of the ‘Finnish Star’ series. Finally she’s putting her foot forward as a solo singer-songwriter.

“I feel so blessed that Sefi came in the picture to work on my first single. Sefi heard my song thanks to my Finnish producer and offered to mix and master the song. After a long break, I decided to follow my heart and pursue a music career again,” says Johanna Kuvaja.

”Sometimes music is the only medicine the heart and soul needs. Music helped me through a health tragedy, divorce and depression. I discovered my greatest talent and found my purpose and passion through the most difficult time in my life”.

With a vocal range of six octaves and professional training as a musician, her music has ben influenced by Mariah Carey, George Michael and Shania Twain, among others.
About the new single, Kuvaja explains, “I had a long-distance relationship with an Australian guy and once, he told me that I could see him in the shower over Skype. While I was waiting to call him, I was humming this chorus, and I recorded it with my phone because I thought it was really catchy. Then I decided to make a whole song out of it.”

“This guy actually inspired me to write songs again after many years of not doing so. Because of him I woke up spiritually. Before this, I hadn’t composed any songs for a decade. All of a sudden music just flew out of me. I felt compelled to express myself again.”
Learning piano from the age of 6, she had entered the conservatory by the time she was 10. She eventually studied TV-performance and music at university, earning her degree and becoming a certified piano teacher.
After picking up violin and Finland’s national instrument, the kantele, at 10 she was part of an ensemble that claimed the Finnish Championship at the Folk Music Festival three years in a row (they were forbidden from competing the next year). Here she began performing on television and touring, both nationally and internationally. After winning her first songwriting competition, she entered more such events, including the Eurovision song contest.
Having studied music, radio and TV performance at university and earning her Master’s in Education, Kuvaja has years of experience teaching music at school and giving kantele and piano lessons. The next ten years meant putting music to the side owing to motherhood, losing her home and belongings, and multiple health problems due to mold toxicity. For some time, Kuvaja had lost her voice and eyesight, suffered tremors, memory problems and MCS (mulitple chemical sensitivity).

Kuvaja ultimately pulled through all of this, and ultimately found inspiration to write dozens of songs again during her sick leave. “I’ve been documenting my tough journey on my blog and Instagram to my 25K followers. They are excited to hear my song and I’m thankful that they are already being supportive,” says Johanna Kuvaja.

‘Shower’ is released today (August 9) digitally and will be available across online music stores and streaming platforms. In the meantime, catch the teaser for her forthcoming video.

Daryl James New Single  Pays Tribute To ‘Alison’

Single Cover

Daryl James’s new single ‘Alison’sees him take a new approach in what has been described as the Bohemian Rhapsody of the Blues/Roots world. This multi-dimensional song traverses vast musical terrain. Based on a roots Weissenborn slide guitar groove, vocal choirs and ethereal Lapsteel guitars interweave there way though Humarimaba melodies and heartfelt lyrics.

The song also has a deep story entwined within it, which started as a seed growing to take on a life of its own.

“A few years back I did a crowdfunding campaign for his debut single ‘27’, and one of the rewards people who donated could choose, was a personal jingle composed by yours truly. My dear friend and Aunt in law Alison donated and chose a personal jingle, which is how the song came into existence.”

Alison had been fighting cancer for a number of years and after beating it time and time again against all odds, passed away a few months ago. She was a musician herself and a deep and innovate thinker highly involved in the local community in various forward thinking and conscious projects.

Unfortunately she never got to hear the song in its final form.  “I felt incredibly guided in the recording of this song, and I believe her spirit lives on in it. I feel the song itself is cathartic in its nature and for all those suffering loss, I hope it can help light the way.” – Daryl says.

Listen to ‘Alison’ here exclusively on Bandcamp. All proceeds from now to 26th August will be going to Cancer Council QLD who did so much great work caring for Alison, and all the other thousands of people they support day in day out. Name your price, or if you can’t afford anything you can stream for free no worries J

“I worked with Alison and her team at Woodford Folk Festival, doing workshops with an instrument called a Humarimba. It is basically a giant marimba that you strap to 2 people who suspend it, and then 3 people can play it. I actually recorded the Humarimba on the track you can hear it underneath the guitar solo.”

Launch parties will be collaborations with Phil Barlow –

Aug 18th | Brisbane | The Junk Bar 3pm

Aug 25th | Sunshine Coast | Foxy On Coolum 3pm

Daryl James fuses gritty psych/blues with Celtic influenced raw acoustic roots, with intricate guitar body percussion and fingerpicking to ripping raucous lapsteel with uncouth effects, beatboxing and live looping, all accompanied by his home made foot drum setup.

Hailing from Snowdonia North Wales UK, after a few years of travelling he ended up on the East Coast of Australia with a backpack and a guitar, where he began honing his craft as a busker. 2 EP’s and a critically acclaimed album later, he now has 2 international tours under his belt, and has become a festival favourite performing at Blues on Broadbeach, Nimbin Roots Fest, Airlie Beach Festival of Music to name a few, alongside many top acts such as Glenn Matlock (Sex Pistols), The Superjesus and the Beautiful Girls.

Sherene and Jon Will Get Their Money Back With New Single

Single Cover

‘I want my money back’ is the first release from the soon to be released EP Treehouse Music. It features a vocal duet by Sherene and fellow Asquith sessions artist Jon Abo and is available on all streaming platforms.  I want my money back ‘Treehouse Music’ has been a labour of love that began when Kayellen Bee, founding member of iconic 80’s band GANGgajang was assembling songs she had written. Kay is the wife of another GANGgajang member and producer Graham“Buzz”Bidstrup and they have been performing in Ukulele quartet ‘Strumnhum’ with singer Sherene and her partner Tom for the past 5 years. During rehearsals for the Uke band Sherene sang on the demo recordings Buzz was producing for the collection of songs that now make up Treehouse Music.

When Buzz played the demo recordings to his long time friend, ARIA winning producer David Nicholas, he asked Buzz if he could be involved in the process of turning the demos into finished recordings. They began working together in Buzz’s studio and the resulting finished tracks feature three members of ‘The Tracking Crew’ with Buzz on drums, James Gillard bass and Glen Hannah acoustic and electric guitars.

Kay’s songs sound like they were written specifically for Sherene, her pure voice shining above well crafted backing tracks and soundscapes sensitively produced by David Nicholas and Buzz Bidstrup. The last piece of the puzzle was a deal between Sebastian Chase of MGM distribution, Buzz and David.

SBD music has released several recordings of ‘The Asquith sessions’  featuring The Tracking Crew and Sherene as the featured vocalist.

‘I want my money back’ is the first release from the EP Treehouse Music.
