Holander Crashes Car and Sings About it On New Single

Indie Pop Artist

Holander, LA’s native glitter grunge princess, is back again with a new era and a new single, Car Crash, produced by TYX and mixed by Ross Newbauer. The 23 year old singer songwriter has garnered a reputation for empowering lyricism and masterfully knitting together brat, brooding, electro, dance and alt pop— and this song is another perfect example of that. Based on a true story, Holander crashes her car, and stops caring about her ex partner.

The February 21st release comes with a new music video: a quirky, sci-fi take on the perfectly pop track, where she lives out everyone’s fantasy of destroying their ex’s house. The date also coincides with the LA kickoff of her first US tour in support of HOLYCHILD.

Car Crash is an empowering “screw you” anthem that exhibits freedom, self love, and realizing what is important in life. Her vocals glide upon the bouncey synths while she paints more gory images lyrically, for a masterful juxtaposition.

Holander describes Car Crash most concisely as: “a celebration of life; what it means to survive & thrive after disaster.”
Tour Dates (with HOLYCHILD):
February 21 – Los Angeles, CA
February 22 – Berkeley, CA
February 27 – Washington D.C
February 28 – Brooklyn, NY
March 1 – Boston, Massachusetts

Indie Rock Band Easy, Release New Single Crystal Waves

Sweden’s celebrated 90s indie rock darlings Easy have announced the impending release of their new album ‘Radical Innocence’ via A Turntable Friend Records . Ahead of this, they present the lead single ‘Crystal Waves’, the video for which was produced by Ian Holmes.

In the early 1990s, Easy was one of Sweden’s most notable indie groups. This year marks the 30-year anniversary of their highly acclaimed debut ‘Magic Seed’ LP, a critical success that spawned three alternative hit singles: ‘Castle Train’, ‘He Brings the Honey’ and ‘Horoscope’. The group also frequently toured Britain and Europe. While their ambitious ‘Sun Years’ LP (1994) had less of an impact, singles ‘Never Seen a Star’ and ‘Listen to the Bells’ clearly demonstrated that the band had taken several musical steps forward.

Easy suddenly disbanded in 1994, with members becoming involved in other projects. The mark they left was notable – when returning to Sweden years later, they found a new Indie scene full of bands inspired by their uniqueness and success, having toured all over Europe with bands like The Gun Club, The House of Love, Lush, The Charlatans and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Easy had something special with elements from pop history – the perfect combination of Sonic Youth-like intensity and the sweet harmonies of The Beach Boys.

In 2010, the group reunited with the original line-up, consisting of Johan Holmlund (vocals), Rikard Jormin (bass), Tommy Dannefjord (drums), Tommy Ericson and Anders Peterson (guitars). The reunion spawned the albums ‘Popcorn Graffiti’ (2012) and ‘Swimming With the Beast’ (2014), marking a new era of inspiration for the band.

The ‘Radical Innocence’ LP is Easy’s first new album in a decade. It is also the band’s third release via German label A Turntable Friend Records, the first being the ‘Magic Seed’ LP reissue in 2017 and the 2018 release of ‘A Heartbeat from Eternity’, a user-friendly compilation of the two previous albums, along with the fresh new single ‘Ask the Sky’. The group played live shows in the UK and Germany.

With a songwriting-production cycle that began in late 2018, the band worked with legendary producer Pat Collier, who was responsible for many of their favourite records, at his Perry Vale Studios in London. Everything has come full circle with the band returning to the British capital, where they recorded their debut album 30 years earlier – kind of a new start on the band’s path towards creating perfect pop songs.

‘Radical Innocence’ is an 8-track offering and their most ambitious album to date. Here, Easy is being easy. The songs are coherent and more refined than on previous albums. This new album also involves a new member – Ingvar Larsson, moog and keyboard master for post-punk outfits Camouflage and Dogsmile.

Working with Collier and Larsson helped the band to further refine their sound, achieving organic pop songs with sweet melodies, sharp guitars, impactful drumming, and clever lyrics.

‘Crystal Waves’ is available now across digital stores and streaming platforms, such as Spotify. The ‘Radical Innocence’ LP wlll be released on April 24, and will be available on vinyl, CD and digitally.

New Single from Multi-Award Winning Indie Pop Sensation Natalie Shay

Indie Pop Artist

Natalie Shay is a 21 year old indie pop/rock artist hailing from North London. The multi award-winning musician has established an ever-growing presence, media acclaim and a loyal fanbase through her explosive live performances and viral-worthy anthems, recognising her as one of the UKs hottest emerging talents.

Combining her youthful and charismatic aura with her classical training and time spent at the prestigious BRIT School, Shay has finessed the ability to produce undeniably catchy music, whilst maintaining a musical maturity. Compared to the likes of Haim, Little Comets and Fickle Friends, the Londoner has absorbed a similar energy and dynamic within her new music.

Shay’s upcoming EP NAKED is a five-track release delving into the everyday experiences of a 21 year old, detailing relationships and life as a young musician. Continuing the songwriter’s love of 80’s soaked music, NAKED cleverly blends the best of era with modern flares. Shay expresses, “I love authentic 80s synth and drum sounds, but I also love modern pop vocal lines and effects. And of course lots of guitars. I try to include a flavour of each of those things in my music. It was very important to me that all of the songs had their own unique stamp and vibe but still all fitted and worked together under the same project”.

Leading single “Not The Girl” narrates the relatable situation of modern dating, but through a fun and lighthearted lens.

“This song was written on reflection of a relationship, but more from a perception of understanding rather than a big ‘f*ck you”, shares the singer.

However, years after finishing the song, Shay realised that the lyrics now took on a whole different meaning, depicting the feeling of sometimes not feeling good enough and frustrations towards working relationships. Sonically “Not The Girl” features upbeat buoyant melodies, effortless vocals and vivid storytelling lyrics.

“Owe It To You” shows a more heartfelt side of Shay’s songwriting, emitting a raw and truly personal essence. Thematically the single is about being in a relationship and struggling to resist temptation. Title track “Naked” shares the topic with “Owe It To You”, illustrating the breakdown in a relationship, knowing you have interest elsewhere but struggling to let go for the fear of being alone. The single sees Shay’s first time including brass instruments in her music, bringing the song to life through a vibrant saxophone solo.

Shay sold out two headline shows in 2019, with her music continuing to pique the interest of notable publications such as Billboard, Clash and The Line of Best Fit. To date she has collectively amassed hundreds of thousands of streams, with her single ‘Yesterday’ being placed in Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist in nine countries. Natalie Shay is a force to be reckoned with and we can’t wait to see what 2020 has in store.

NAKED is slated for release 17th April with an EP release show at Camden Assembly on the 16th April (tickets available on DICE).

Catchy New Pop Single from Emerging Brisbane Artist Katanak

Indie Pop Artist

Fresh indie tunes with catchy pop hooks are the signature style of emerging Brisbane artist, Katanak.

Dylan Cattanach is the face and creator of Katanak and has been writing, composing and performing his music for the past six years, first with his former band and now currently as a solo artist.

2019 started in a big way and saw him support Pete Murray on his “Summer Sessions tour 2019”. He released his first single as Katanak, “Life”, an indieXalt pop song about young love and connection, which lead to a collaboration with Keir Nuttall. This collaboration has produced his next single ‘Astronomy’ released 5th February 2020 which charts the euphoric highs of meeting the person you have a connection with.

‘Astronomy’ started out life as a song that was almost about to get swept under the rug because lyrics or a melody weren’t coming to me. I’d written the music, played all the instruments and produced this song in my home studio. While recording ‘Life’, my mix engineer Ben McCarthy, was listening to my work, including what is now ‘Astronomy’. He instantly forwarded the beds to Keir Nuttall (Australian composer) so that we could collab. Kier was so excited with the song that within 24 hours he had the lyrics and melody completed and we had a finished product.

Katanak has been announced as one of 24 Brisbane artists involved in the QUBE Effect, a mentoring program run by Brisbane City Council which includes performances during Youth Week. He’s had spins on Australian community radio and International Internet radio programs broadcasting to UK, US, Germany, Japan and Australia.

Inspired by The 1975, Circa Waves and Two Door Cinema Club, Katanak is building a reputation for creating indie pop songs which gets the crowd on their feet and moving to the groove.

Acclaimed Indie Band Penny Betts Lights Up with New Hypnotic Single

Indie Band

The UK’s own Penny Betts offer up a uniquely smooth blend of indie-pop and sixties-style songwriting. A four-piece who know precisely who they are and how they want to sound, Penny Betts are inspired by bands stretching as far back as Cream and Pink Floyd as much as modern influences like The Arctic Monkeys and Tame Impala. Their heartfelt songwriting and hypnotic melodies pour through amidst reverb-soaked indie-rock soundscapes, creating something that’s perfectly calming or decidedly energizing – depending on what you need from it; and how loud you let it play.

Beach-side vibes meet with classic UK tones and an anthem-like approach to songwriting. The band have honed their style and sound over time, with lead singer Matt Felix and guitarist Al Finch first jamming together way back during their school years. Over time, bassist Lufta and drummer Jocelyn completed the arrangement and kicked off a whole new chapter for the band.

Following the release of their highly anticipated debut EP, Penny Betts unveil the infectious new single ‘Lights!’. Narrating the story of a dreamer observing ordinary life, the four-piece explains,

“It was written late at night all in one go, with lyrics and music arriving simultaneously. A demo was made the next morning, with the structure being cemented. The groove of the song only came once we played it all together, changing it from a straight indie rock type track to something more authentic. The big fuzzy guitar riff at the end was taken from another unfinished song idea of ours”.

Recorded entirely on tape with producer Brett Shaw (Foals, Florence and the Machine, Clean Bandit), “Lights!” illustrates the band’s desire to emit raw, dry sounds. The band share,

“We always had this sound in our heads that we could never really make a reality, but Brett knew exactly what we wanted and even exceeded our expectations. Recording onto tape is something really beautiful, and we’ll do it whenever we can”.

Oozing with effortless vocals, dazed melodies and a lethargic rhythm section, Penny Betts craft a dreamy, hypnotic track.

Rock and roll has returned, the genre and the original flair of the 60s and 70s is alive and well. With a touch of originality and a willingness to storm through language barriers – thanks to Matt Felix’ French native tongue – Penny Betts are well on their way to carving out a path of their own. Passion and musical precision meet under the blanket of sweeping guitars and experimental waves of audio warmth. Penny Betts aim to get you dancing, connecting, and embracing the live music scene as the rightful escapism it was always meant to be. A band well worth looking out for over the coming months and years.

New Ghost Like A Soul Atmospheric Anthem from Jonny Polonsky

Indie ArtistAmerican singer-songwriter, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and producer  Jonny Polonsky presents his new single ‘Ghost Like Soul’ featuring Cedric Bixler-Zavala (The Mars Volta/ At The Drive-In). This is the second single off his forthcoming album ‘Kingdom of Sleep’, scheduled for release on March 6, hot on the trail of lead single ‘The Weeping Souls’ (released on January 17). Self-produced by Polonsky, this album was mixed and mastered by Mike Tholen (Chris Connelly, Revolting Cocks).

This video was directed by Paul Elledge, a legend in the world of professional photography, whose work has been featured in publications as diverse as Rolling Stone and Forbes.

Hailing from Chicago, Jonny Polonsky writes interstellar anthems for a new generation of mindfreaks. Songs of sex and death and love…hymns of despair and transcendence. A celebration of what it feels like to be human; from the exalted, grandest moments of euphoria and bliss, to the universal pain of loss and letting go. Beauty at every turn.

Over his storied and dynamic career as a solo artist, Jonny Polonsky has released six full-length records over 23 years. From early on, he has impressed upon many music luminaries. His DIY demos led to support from Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie, Tin Machine), Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello), Zander Schloss (Joe Strummer, Circle Jerks) and John Zorn. The latter invited him to play CBGB’s Gallery for the New Jewish Music Festival with his band featuring Marc Ribot on guitar, Sebastian Steinberg (Soul Coughing) on bass, and Sim Cain (Rollins Band) on drums.

Reeves Gabrels’ introduction led to Frank Black support, representation by Pixies manager Ken Goes, and Frank Black producing a demo recording, which led iconic record producer Rick Rubin to sign Polonsky to American Recordings.

Polonsky has also performed on albums by Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), Pete Yorn, Dixie Chicks, Minnie Driver and Donovan.

The instrumentation on this record ranges beyond the standard guitar, bass and drums: 1980’s Blade Runner-like synthesizer soundscapes, Middle Eastern finger cymbals, gongs, bass clarinets, piccolos, harmonica, bass fiddles, and a children’s choir.

“This album came together as most of my records – gradually. I’m always writing and recording, and after awhile, I notice a unifying theme or atmosphere kind of pokes it head up. The songs that want to be grouped together raise their hands and volunteer for service, nothing is very consciously calculated on my end. I was listening to a lot of Cocteau Twins, I got heavily into them while writing and recording these songs,” says Jonny Polonsky.

The forthcoming ‘Kingdom of Sleep’ LP follows ‘UNRELEASHED: Demos and Rarities 1996-2018’, issued as a limited-edition colored-vinyl Record Store Day gatefold edition via Jett Plastic Recordings (also available digitally and on CD with 3 bonus tracks).

Mixed by producer Brendan O’Brien (Neil Young, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Rage Against the Machine), his 1996 debut album ‘Hi My Name is Jonny’  was met with great critical reception from The New York Times, MTV and international news outlets. After touring with Frank Black for several months and the 1996 Lollapalooza summer tour, Polonsky took a hiatus.

Resurfacing in 2004 with  ‘The Power of Sound’ LP, he supported Audioslave on their 2005 North American tour. In 2006, Polonsky formed the short-lived band Big Nose with Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave), and collabored on several songs with Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle) for his project Puscifer, with whom Polonsky also wrote, recorded and toured from 2007 to 2010.

Polonsky’s 2012 album  ‘Intergalactic Messenger of Divine Light and Love’ was recorded at Rick Rubin’s recording studio in Malibu and Akademie Mathematique of Philosophical Sound Research, and mixed by Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Slayer). The 2015 album ‘The Other Side of Midnight’  followed, mixed by Dean Hurley at David Lynch’s Asymmetrical Studios.

Polonsky released his fifth LP  ‘Fresh Flesh’ in January 2018, recorded at Rick Rubin’s studio and featuring guest performances by vocalist Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age), and drummer Kevin Haskins of Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, and Tones on Tail.

As of February 14, ‘Ghost Like Soul’ is available as a digital single. The full ‘Kingdom of Sleep’ album will be released on March 6 on CD and clear vinyl with gatefold sleeve, as well as digitally. It can be pre-ordered at https://www.jonnypolonsky.com/music

Heartbreaking New Music Imminent from Country Singer Emily Markham

Australian Country ArtistAustralia’s own country singer-songwriter Emily Markham is on the rise and making waves with her brand new single, “How The Story Ends.” The NSW South Coast native has penned a remarkably relatable tune detailing the aftermath of relationships that don’t always have happy endings. Despite the sad subject of the song, the upbeat tempo and Markham’s powerful vocals provide a refreshing twist on the topic of relationship aftermath. From the vibe of this foot-tapping single, it is evident how Kasey Chambers, Maren Morris, and Kacey Musgraves have influenced Emily Markham’s vocal and writing style.

“How the Story Ends” was recorded at UMG Australia’s Forbes Street Studio.

“This song is completely me. I wrote this sitting on the floor of my hotel room in Nashville,” says Markham. “I had the line “if I need to be the villain in your story, that’s okay” and I knew I wanted to write a song about the different sides of a relationship. I feel like this song is a more mature concept to other songs I have written and I am incredibly excited for people to hear it.”

Emily Markham released her debut EP Come on Over in 2014, which was crafted by award-winning producer, Matt Fell. Her single from that EP “Collision” was added to over 100 radio station playlists in Australia. Emily has been named Today’s Country 94.1 Brand New Star on the NSW Central Coast and appeared on the auditions for season 5 of The Voice Australia. In 2018, Markham released her sophomore, seven song EP, Right Where You Are. From that body of work came “4 Days (Til Friday)”, which was added to the KIX Country radio playlist.

In the past two years, Emily Markham has been taking trips to Nashville, TN to write with hit songwriters like Bill Diluigi (hits on Billboard and Americana Top 100) and John Capek (hits with Cher, Olivia Newton-John, Rod Stewart). Markham’s recent Nashville ventures have elevated her craft, which is clear with the release of “How The Story Ends.” Her time in Music City has fueled her fire for success, and the new music reflects her tremendous growth. Moving forward, Emily is focused on creating a thriving career in country music that spans across the world, relating to and connecting with diverse audiences.

“How the Story Ends” will be available on all streaming platforms on Friday, February 28, 2020.

Heavenly and Alluring New Single from Madeline Finn “Love Me Like I Love You”

Indie Artist

The moody, midtempo “Love Me Like I Love You” showcases Finn’s musical range. Her voice is open and honest–resigned, disappointed, and melancholy–as she comes to the realization that it’s best to let a partner go, since their emotions just aren’t aligned (“You don’t bend me like I break you”). And while driven throughout by brittle piano, “Love Me Like I Love You” is bolstered by sighing backing harmonies, heartbeat-steady drums, and a thundering bridge full of scorching electric guitar fuzz.

Madeline Finn touches on a wide range of sonic directions in her solo work: sparse folk, meditative piano ballads, twangy rock, and string-laced indie. Luckily, the Cleveland-raised singer-songwriter is also the rare vocal talent with the range to handle just about any music she wants to write. She’ll howl and whisper, rage and mourn, croon and conspire—always with breathtaking precision and heart-piercing sincerity. A Top 70 American Idol finalist in 2018, Finn has also fronted two bands (the pop-punk-leaning band Envoi, Americana-tinged trio Whiskey Hollow) and toured throughout New England, the Pacific Northwest, and her adopted hometown of Nashville. Currently she’s looking to put out a new solo album mixed by Dave Schiffman (Jimmy Eat World, Weezer, Frank Turner) later this year. Stay tuned to Madeline Finn’s  Website for the latest info, or follow her below.

Ashley Puckett’s Stars Align For Debut Album “Never Say Never”

Country Singer

The phrase “Never Say Never” can be quite the over-used cliche. However, for Pittsburgh-area country singer, Ashley Puckett, it was the perfect phrase to describe her lifelong love affair with music:

“There was a time I really wasn’t sure music would go any further for me, except performing open mic nights here and there and working long hours during the day,” she said. “Life pulls you in so very many directions, and I never gave up, but I almost sort of “settled” in the wrong spot. I’ve never been one for good luck, so say it how you will…the stars aligned or fate happened.”

On February 14th, 2020, Ashley Puckett dropped her debut album of the same name, Never Say Never. The Bryan Cole-produced collection features two singles, “Medicine” which amassed more than 90K spotify streams, and her current release, “Bulletproof.” The latter is climbing the New Music Weekly national AM/FM and Digital Country charts.

Never Say Never was engineered by Doug Kasper at Tonic Studios. A who’s who of accomplished studio hands joined Ashley on the album, including Mike Brignardello (bass), John Willis (banjo), Mike Johnson (Steel Guitar), Heidi Engel and Tammy Petty (Background Vocals.) Hot newcomer Adam Ernst rounded out the musicians on the record.

Ashley concludes, “I met the right people at the right time and here we are. So a lesson to me and anyone reading this right now, ‘Never say Never.”

ABOUT ASHLEY PUCKETT: Ashley Puckett was born and raised in North Huntingdon, just east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Ashley realized her passion for music at a young age, performing at vocal competitions and community events, and eventually, landing at open-mic nights and shows in bars and clubs, doing anything to keep the music and her passion alive. Her musical influences have been empowering..shaping the artist she has become: Ladies like Lee Ann Womack, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Jo Dee Messina, Carole King and LeAnn Rimes. At age sixteen Ashley picked up the guitar, began writing songs, and the adventurous country girl hit the road.

Nigel Thomas Releases New Indie Rock Single ‘Your Fire’

Great Fire of London started, Humpty Dumpty and the mythological Phoenix”

Indie Artist

The London based singer/songwriter, DJ, actor has spent the last 18 months writing and recording his sophomore solo album ‘Well Well’ which has just been released by Keo Records, with artwork specially painted by Eddie Argos from Art Brut. The album was mixed by Sam Williams (Plan B, Gaz Coombes etc) and is available on heavyweight vinyl, CD and download.

As the lead singer and songwriter for indie rock band The Foxes, Nigel enjoyed several UK Indie Chart top ten hits, toured the world and recorded and released an acclaimed album mixed by John Cornfield (Supergrass, Razorlight, Muse) at Sawmills Studios in Cornwall.

After The Foxes disbanded, Nigel took the solo road, and to great success. Counting among his fans Mike Batt (who asked Nigel to sing in a special one-off performance of his new musical ‘Men Who March Away’ in 2017) Blur’s Dave Rowntree and Indie mogul Alan McGee, Nigel followed the success of his first single “Fever” and released his debut full-length album ‘Travelling Man’ (recorded at Tilehouse Studios by Luke Oldfield (Mike’s son) and mastered by John Davis (Led Zeppelin, Lana Del Rey, U2, Kaiser Chiefs) at Metropolis) to critical acclaim in March 2016, enjoying TV and radio support.

“Nigel Thomas is a great all-rounder. I met him first when I cast him as an actor-singer In a musical but was aware of his other life as a singer-songwriter, both solo and in bands. I’ve since seen him perform live in London and been very impressed. His new album is bright, intelligent, well-written rock/pop that should get him noticed and written about. He’s a driven, persistent artist and prepared to work hard for the greater success that I feel he will find one day soon”. Mike Batt

On Your Fire, Nigel says:

“It’s very much a song about London and a London girl I once knew, with references to Pudding Lane where the Great Fire of London started, Humpty Dumpty and the mythological Phoenix”

Personality Cult Unveil Punk Rock ‘New Arrows’ Album

Punk Rock BandWhat started as a solo project for North Carolina’s Ben Carr has evolved into a full-band supergroup of sorts, featuring past and present members of Paint Fumes, Last Year’s Men, Natural Causes, Bass Drum Of Death, Missing Pages, Mind Spiders, Sweet Talk, Sweet Knives, and probably a bunch more that we’re forgetting about!

Dirtnap Records was tipped off to this monster of an album by Jeff Burke (Radioactivity/Marked Men) as he was recording it a few months back in NYC. Soon after the sessions, Carr and Burke began trading the earliest mixes of the album with Carr recording all of the overdubs during and after his shifts at Wilmington, North Carolina’s flagship record shop, Gravity Records. After a single listen to the finished product, we were tripping over ourselves to immediately get ahold of the band and offer to put the record out. Seriously, it’s THAT good!

Fast propulsive punk with hooks for days, and dark undercurrents swirling underneath. While sonically this doesn’t fall too far from what you’d associate with many beloved Dirtnap bands of the past, these guys really nail the delicate balance of taking a familiar sound and putting their own unique spin on it, in the end sounding like nothing but themselves.

Following a s/t LP on Drunken Sailor Records, Personality Cult have just released their Dirtnap debut (and debut as a full band) “New Arrows” today, February 14th, 2020. This is the best new band we’ve heard in awhile, so do take note.

CBC and Netflix actor Kyle Meagher Releases New Pop Single Entitled ‘Just Talkin’

Pop SingerKyle Meagher is off to a fresh start this new year with the release of his new single “Just Talkin‘.” Inspiration for the single stems from not knowing if someone is romantically interested but hoping they are feeling the same way. Meagher wants to show listeners that “just talking” with a person encompasses the sweet moments of uncertainty before putting a label on a new relationship. Co-written with Joe Jordan and produced by Mark Liggett (who has produced and/or mixed music for Robin Gibb/BeeGeesBilly IdolGeorge MichaelNew Kids on the Block and Canada’s own Kira Isabella), and Jerry Lane, “Just Talkin’” dives into the realm of raw emotion to create an upbeat and positive pop styling.

Recent Accolades

Inspired by the sounds of Canadian artists like Scott Helman  and Shawn Mendes , “Just Talkin’” blends hope, anticipation and love into an upbeat pop sound with a dance melody throughout the chorus. The melody brings energetic vibes reflecting the fun flirtations between people in the early stages of dating. The fierce guitar chords throughout the song radiate positive “Just Talkin’” energy, creating a euphoric feeling. The fun-filled musical stylings gives off feelings of happiness and will pull you right onto the dancefloor.

Although it did not work out, I wanted to create a song to show when you’re just talking with someone there are sweet moments you can cherish forever,” said Kyle Meagher. “Through the upbeat vibes and strong guitar chords, the single reflects the fun and flirtatious moments during the early stages of dating.”

Alternative Wild August River Band Launch Show For New Single

Indie BandHaving played at the 2019 Airlie Beach Music Festival last November and a special set at The Bearded Lady on Boxing Day, August River Band are excited to announce their official launch show for their latest single “Blue Light” at The Milk Factory on Saturday 15 February!

August River Band are a three piece alternative originals outfit from Brisbane consisting of Eev FerreiraLil Burrows, and Gerard Kerr. The band have the ability to instantly draw in listeners through their unique sound which offers a wild and beautifully juxtaposed chemistry between the tortured singer songwriter, the classically trained violinist and the hard hitting rock and roll drummer.

August River Band’s new single “Blue Light” is a punchy, quirky song that examines relationships in the digital age, unapologetically pushing the boundaries of the folk rock genre. Delivering tightly arranged odd time signatures which dissolve into soaring choruses whilst maintaining a soulful beckoning of the dark and the beautiful, “Blue Light” is sure to excite fans of Dave Matthews Band and The Roots.

“It’s a love song not to a person but to human connection, a plea, in some ways, to not forget that we’re not machines.”   – Jolene Country Music Blog
“Blue Light” was inspired whilst Eev was being scowled at by “a very gorgeous and very stern Estonian barista”, explaining that following the interaction “I considered how we all long for just a little connection. I remembered my own longing as a partner spent much of her time with her nose in her cell phone. This is a longing we all share and a connection we are all guilty of withholding from the ones we love. The song cries out to us all to look up from the Blue Light.” It is the special connection between the August River Band which makes them so unique.

Exploding Soul Funk Collective The Regime Drops New Music

Funk Band

Exploding out of Sydney’s inner-west, The Regime is a 16 piece funk collective that’s tipping the scales firmly back into the favour of soul funk and they’ve just this week dropped their cruisy new lovefest of a single Never Gonna Stop in time for Valentine’s Day, alongside yesterday’s huge Bluesfest lineup inclusion announcement.  This extraordinary love funky revolution will also be hitting the road to play a run of shows through March, kicking off at Big Gay Day in Brisbane on March 8, before moving on to The Boogiemanz Ball at The Factory Theatre (Syd), Beer Deluxe (Albury), The Night Cat (Melb), The Cheeky Squire (Frankston) and culminating with a show of epic proportions to storm Bluesfest across three days on April 9 (opening Jambalaya stage), 10 and 13.

Inspired by the dull-unrelenting pain of physical detachment, Never Gonna Stop tells the true story of love’s foreverness. Cruisy, sexy as hell and a total love-in, exceptional musicianship is on full display here with sixteen Regimers appearing on the track – this group could be straight out of Motown Records – guitar, saxophone, piano and flute taking centre stage, and that’s before we even have a chance to mention the soul-filled vocals and that groove and feel set by their unrivaled rhythm section.

Never Gonna Stop was written on the morning of the third day of Burning Seed festival, and the band started recording it in Liam Stacey’s (vocalist and producer) bedroom as soon as they returned home.  “The whole song was recorded in my bedroom, all except the drums which were done in Julian Joseph’s (vocals) room, and the house is metres away from the Sydenham train lines, 24 hour railway construction, and right under the flight path. So, obviously we left the windows open during recording!” jokes vocalist and producer, Liam Stacey.

The Regime is supremely adept at serving up a triple helping of thumping bass lines, hearty brass tones and fat lyrics to insatiable crowds, and their performances at Bluesfest and these headline shows through March will be no different.  “To be playing at Bluesfest feels like we’ve finally been welcomed home,” enthuses Stacey. Say no more, you do not want to miss these shows.

And to add further excitement to what is already an impressive start to 2020, The Regime have signed an exclusive deal with one of Australia’s leading booking agencies, New World Artists. “This band is incredible. Imagine the funky throb energy of James Brown, Jamiroquai grooves, killer musos with 6 star singers out front and total danceable, joyous, mayhem on stage,” says Owen Orford, National Agent at New World Artists, “NWA is so very excited to join The Regime’s circus.”

A lively music experiment that generously borrows from funk, soul and electro, and twists it into a sumptuous undulation, ‘The Regime’, an expression once falsely disseminated and cunningly propagated, is now brilliantly redefined at the dawning of a new decade, finally giving sovereignty to the power of love. The Regime is Liam Stacey (vocals/producer), Ziggy Tockuss (vocals), Keegan Fisher AKA Keggles MC (vocals), Aleks Mikic (Vocals), Giacinta Ruggieri (vocals), Julian Joseph (vocals), Jasper Gubbay (vocals), Matthew Stacey (lead guitar), Rory Brady (rhythm guitar), Rory Lucas (bass guitar), Andrew Charalambous (keys), Danny G Felix (trumpet), Ned Green (synth/keys), Oscar Connery (guitar), Alex Sullivan (drums), Ross Middleton (saxophone) and Leah Wilkie (trumpet).

Captivating Dark Eerie New Pop Music Monster from Perth’s Nic Rollo

Australian Indie Artist

Perth based producer and songwriter Nic Rollo has announced his driving, eerie new single Monster, about identifying and quelling the monster within us all. Accompanying the track is a dark, revolving film clip, directed by Alex Montanari (Cub Sport, What So Not, Khalid) and Matthew James. Monster follows the 2019 release of Nic’s brilliant, iridescent EP What Happened to the Kid.

.

Monster will feel familiar to anyone who has said something in frustration or anger that they regret after the fact – the track is an introspective interrogation of that remorse, and what it’ll take to tame the inner monster who is responsible for those biting remarks. Reminiscent of synth-pop auteurs M83 and indie rockers The Wombats, and mastered by pop royalty Chris Gehringer (Harry Styles, Rihanna, Halsey), the track is buoyed by glistening synths, hooky guitar and driving percussion – while Nic’s gentle vocals and arresting lyrics take centre stage.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Nic explains,

Monster was written during a previous relationship of mine when things were a bit shaky.  There were a few times that I’d said something to my ex that had started to cause fractures in the relationship and unnecessary conflict.  Monster is about that side of myself that I don’t always like  – the part that is impulsive and lashes out when I should just hold my tongue.”The video for Monster feels like the beginning of a horror film – there’s a sense of suspense, as though the calm atmosphere of the night-driving scenes will not last for much longer.  It’s a beautiful watch too – the lights passing in the night as the song plays out feels like a perfect representation of the moody nature of the music. Speaking about the clip, Nic says, “The video for Monster is a narrative based video that features a lot of driving and aims to be aesthetically pleasing.  Matthew James, Alex Montanari and I came together to think about the video a few months back and we all had this vibe of the song revolving around driving and having dark colours. The story itself is supposed to be slightly confusing – am I driving to the burial or from the burial?  Am I burying the monster or is the monster burying me?”

The release of Monster is a killer way to kick off 2020 for this exciting young artist, as he enthuses, “It feels fantastic to finally be releasing Monster.  I wrote the song over a year ago and have been sitting on it for what feels like forever now.  To date, it is probably my favourite song that I’ve written, and I’m super stoked to finally be able to share it with people.”

Catch the New Single from Kid Lunch Before It’s Over

Indie Artist

Before It’s Over ” is the first release in twenty years and is about the approach to life these days from Kid Lunch. It is taken from the album, Volume 2, out now.

“When writing “Before It’s Over ,” I tried to focus on where I want to be: living in the moment and appreciating things, people and situations while they are happening and present, while acknowledging the tension arising from the fact that all things must pass.”

This track charts the journey of getting to that place of appreciation.

“Before what’s over, exactly? This is for you to apply to your own life, anything from a moment to a friendship, from a love to a lifetime.” Single from Indie Artist Kid Lunch

Daisy Spratt Releases Super Fun Music Video for ‘Think Again Boy’

Australian Singer

Americana-pop musician Daisy Spratt is thrilled to announce the release of the music video for her latest single  “Think Again Boy” on  Friday, February 7, 2020. Arriving hot on the heels of Spratt’s performance at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, the music video brings Aussie pride; shot on location in Spratt’s home of Melbourne, Australia.

Proud to share the new music video with her fans, Daisy Spratt says of filming

“The video team brought the narrative to life and made the process so fun. I was able to have my family involved as extras, and it was great having Jaxon Human (“Love Island Australia,” “Sydney’s Crazy Rich Asians”) play the male lead; he is such a talented actor. I’m so excited for everyone to finally have a visual for the song.”

“Think Again Boy” plunges straight into upbeat, swamp stompin’ beats letting the world know that Daisy Spratt is not just another pretty face but a force to be reckoned with. In the video, Spratt is continuously pursued by a man, played my Human, who is only interested in a one night fling. With empowered lyrics and a radiating confidence, Spratt grabs her girlfriends and shuts him down, letting Human know that he needs to “Think Again Boy.”

Daisy Spratt is a rising star with no signs of burning out. She previously released two chart-topping singles, “Love Like That” and “Soda Pop,” which can be heard on Australian Tiger Airways flights across Spratt’s home continent. In addition to the success of her singles, Spratt continues to gain notoriety with the release of her self-titled EP, earning her airplay on national and international radio stations and streaming services.

Hip hop influenced Indie Pop New Single from Journey To The View

Indie Pop Artist

Indie-pop project Journey to The View makes his return with self-produced single All the Same February 7th.

Journey to the View is the project of LA based singer-songwriter, Marcus Jay Allen. Bursting onto the scene back in 2019 with the release of his self-produced debut single Strange Terrain, Marcus finds inspiration in the metaphorical comparison of real uncharted adventures, and ones that take place inward, on the path of self-discovery.

Using his music as a platform to maintain a conversation on mental health, Journey to the View finds solace in song writing and is not afraid to address and share his personal encounters with mental health.

Speaking more on the track, Journey to the View explains:

“All the Same” is a hopeful, hip-hop influenced, heart-felt acoustic love letter to a family member. I was inspired to write the song when news hit my family that a family member was suffering from depression. At 21-years-old, he was at cross-roads, overwhelmed by life decisions. He couldn’t commit to his dreams, from fear of choosing the wrong path. My message is all about finding your own way in life. Rejecting labels and breaking stereotypes.”

Taking his cues from the silky production of acts like Tame Impala and The Japanese House– Journey to the View has crafted his own style of gripping and insightful indie-pop.

All the Same is set to release February 7th and will be available on all streaming platforms.

Indie Rock Band Puppet Theory Release New Single Modern Boys

Indie Rock Band

Manchester based indie rock band Puppet Theory are made up of their Liverpudlian frontman Chris Pickering (vocals and guitar), Johnny Hearldon (lead guitar), Niall Musa (bass and backing vocals) and Paul Gallacher (drums). Drawing influences from early 2000s UK indie rock, classic pop-punk melodies and modern indie pop, Puppet Theory’s energetic music has begun to make waves in the North West of England, gathering a cult following of younger fans.

With their energetic live performance and memorable choruses, Puppet Theory have played some of the biggest stages in the North West of England, including Manchester’s Academy 2 alongside ‘Larkins’, Liverpool’s Hanger 34 and Preston’s 53 Degrees in addition to Manchester’s Dot to Dot Festival and Macclesfield Festival in 2018. In July 2019 they packed out Manchester’s Deaf Institute at their biggest headline show to date.

The boys have gained support from This Feeling, Scruff Of The Neck, BBC Introducing in Merseyside and XS Manchester’s Clint Boon.

With a growing reputation for high energy performances and unforgettable choruses that leave you with a night to remember, 2019 was certainly no different.

Gracing some of the biggest and most legendary venues in Manchester, and not forgetting popping up on some of the local festival scenes, these guys certainly left their mark on whoever got the chance to see them live.

With 2020 now upon us, Puppet Theory now set their sights on a string of new year releases of arguably their best material yet.

With radio plays from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio Wales and Kerrang! Radio, the band look to build on top of the successful foundations that their previous single Katia laid.

Their latest single, ‘Modern Boys’, the band say”  Modern Boys is an almost satirical song about modern boys and girls. They try too hard, they think a lot of themselves but they can’t afford to take you out on a date. The band wanted to write an up-tempo track with both modern and classic indie influences to reflect the modern theme of the track’

Soothing Percussive New Single, ‘Plants Behind Glass’ from Dralms

Independent Artist

Christopher Smith’s singing voice is petal-soft, but the sentiments he’s evoking with a sigh undoubtedly take root in your psyche. On Love Writes Itself, the second full-length from his atmospheric Dralms project the Europe-by-way-of-Vancouver singer-songwriter abstracts evergreen topics of loss and longing— of sex and despair— through a chlorophyll-scented lens.

Smith wrote and recorded Love Writes Itself across a three-year stretch. The record’s earliest tracks germinated while out on the road supporting Dralms’ acclaimed 2015 debut album, Shook, while others took shape during a cabin retreat on British Columbia’s Gulf Islands. Though keeping in line with the elegant, chilled-out vibe of Dralms’ early work, Love Writes Itself pivots from the more digitalistic impressions of Shook towards a decidedly organic grove of symphony strings, blushing woodwinds, piano, and guitar.

The elastic nature of Dralms’ line-up, its membership ebbing and flowing around core songwriter Smith, has brought many new collaborators to Love Writes Itself. Smith co-produced the nine song collection with composer/sound designer Mirko Vogel (Sekiden, Cut Copy). The pair first met in London when the latter did sound for Dralms at St. Pancras Old Church and reconnected a few years later when Vogel moved to Vancouver. Together, they developed Smith’s spare acoustic demos into a romantic, maximalist rush that references the melancholy baroque-pop of Misery is a Butterfly-period Blonde Redhead and the sensual swirl of early ‘70s Serge Gainsbourg.

Smith is also joined on the album by the sweet, if saddened bowing of Juno/Polaris Prize-winning violinist Jesse Zubot (Tanya Tagaq, Destroyer, Stars), while a lean pop-and-pluck bass groove is supplied by Cut Copy bassist Ben Browning, and Juno-winning drummer Kenton Loewen (Peregrine Falls, Dan Mangan) offers refined, lite-funk backbeats to many of its tracks.

On top of splitting synth and guitar duties with Vogel, an untold richness emanates through Smith’s vocals throughout Love Writes Itself. The artist admits that the sessions at Vogel’s studio— as well as a pair of songs recorded with Shook producer Jonathan Raham at Afterlife Studio—are some of his most candid performances yet. Shook’s electronics-spiked aesthetic often left his tender tenor cocooned in a Novocaine cloud of reverb and delay. Here, Smith’s vocals are especially up-close-and-personal, lips pressed closely against a microphone guard as he navigates the naivety of new love (“Plants Behind Glass”), confronts ego (“Precious Flower”), and comes to terms with loss (“Monet in Black and White”).

Slyly hinted it via introductory instrumental piece “Flower Theme”,   Love Writes Itself connects its lyrical content through Smith’s poetic allusions to plant life, ranging from the near-religious imagery of the “cathedral arches of arbutus trees” found on B.C’s Gulf Islands, to noting the bleak existence of a vase of flowers trapped behind a window pane.

“There is a lot of flowery, lush dialogue, but there are oppressive visuals as well,” Smith explains of knotting together the beautiful with the brutal.  “As a visual, flowers can be used in so many different ways—something fragile; something withering away; something that’s been snipped and kept on display, or something growing freely.”

Dralms’ latest grapples with various levels of love and loss, and the life cycles we encounter both in nature and our personal lives. “I want that feeling back” he coos hopefully above synth-bass and symphony strings on “Blush”. After coming to terms with wilted expectations, another experience tends to push up from the soil.
